this ph meter anygood ?

helo i recently just bought a ph metre its the one with the steel rod u stick in the soil , just wondering it says to test the ph in the soil ? wouldnt u wanna test the ph in the water b4 u apply it to the plant lol ? can anyone tell me are these worth keeping or should i just buy the test kit ones , so far ive tested 4 pots and the metre hasnt moved im unsure about this .

I think those cheap metal rod do hickeys are a piece of crap. I know what you mean, the meter dont move. You can get a digital ph pen on ebay for about 25 bucks.
