As it drys any rot will turn a different color.. the stuff I have is a tan rusty color.. mine doesn't smell moldy or musty at all..
How was the stem inside the bud? Any brown? Sounds like you made out better than I did..

There was no brown really inside the stems, there was some purple streaking and weeks ago I had to trim a bunch of fan leaves affected with leafminers-the remaining stems of these leaves looked brown/bruised where I had originally cut, but didn't stray much past that. i just really need to keep an eye and make sure-definitely don't want to ingest mold.
Did the mold get to your whole crop or was it salvageable?

I managed to save about 70% of my crop.. the bad part.. it was the biggest buds that were affected..
oh well!!

That's definitely a bummer your biggest got taken down, but great that you were able to salvage so much. This plant was my very first, from bag seed, and so much has gone wrong that I was surprised she made it to flower. If I would have lost her completely so close to finish I would have been heartbroken haha

One thing about mold,is when you shake a branch that has the discolor(light covering of a gray/light brown cover)you will see a dust cloud moving through the air. Before cutting the branch off try a spray bottle to wet the spores down so they do not travel to the rest of the crop.
As you break apart the cured buds, the base of the stem should not be any other color than green. If it is light brown,it has mold
