Third Grow - First Journal - Purple Kush - 400watt closet grow

Well, I've gotten a lot of information from these forums as I've come off and on since 2007, so I've decided it's time to give back.

The first time I grew, I used an ebb and flow table. The second time I grew, I used soil. This time, I've created an ebb and flow bucket system that should be even better.

I'm only growing two Purple Kush this time around, but I plan to veg them for 3 & 1/2 weeks (after getting them as clones from a nearby Co-Op - I'm a legal, medical marijuana patient), whereas I put my last two grows straight into flower and used more plants. We'll see how it goes.

So I'm using hydroton and Sensi Grow A / B + H2o2. I only have 3% bottles of H2o2 right now, but I only fill my reservoir up to about 6 gallons, so I don't end up even having to use much of that either really.

Temp: 78-79 during the day. Not sure at night, but I'd guess around 68.
PH: I start it at 5.6 and let it slowly rise to 6.0 before I knock it down again.
PPM: 850 (My tap comes out 250, so only 600 worth of nutes added)
I'm feeding my plants pretty much exactly what they want right now. I flood the buckets 5x a day: from 6:30 to 6:35, 10:30 to 10:35, 2:30 to 2:35, 6:30 to 6:35, and 10:30 to 10:35. My lights are on from 6 a.m. to 12.am. And I check up very often on the PPM levels of the reservoir to see how much they're eating. At first, I had it at 650 and it dropped to 450. So I bumped it up to 850 and it has stayed the same for a few feeds now.

Plants age: 1 week and 2 days since getting as a clone. Plan to veg for 2 and a half more weeks.

Oh, and one last thing: I topped them the day I got them, and I also got them a tad early as I had to make some tweaks to my system after I already had them. So they had a rough start, but they've been taking off like champions the last few days.

I run the squirrel cage fan 30 minutes before lights on and 30 minutes after lights off, and leave the other two fans running 24/7. It seems to keep the airflow and temperature down perfectly.

So the two purple kush are now two weeks old since I got them as clones. I also decided to go out and get some friends because I felt the space was lacking. I managed to get a nice sized God's Gift, a couple Oreo's (Durban Poison x Some old german bagseed - 100% sativa), and a couple wounded freebies that I'm trying to revive. One of them is Cataract Kush and the other was unknown, so we'll see.

The PK's are up to about 7.5 inches tall, and the God's gift is about 13 inches tall. I'm going to let the PKs get to 12 inches and then I'm flowering them all.

Using coco and canna coco nute line for everything but the PK. The PKs are still on Sensi Grow A / B + some H2o2. For the PKs, I also dumped the reservoir and gave them a few feeds of just water, since they are getting fed 5 times a day. I probably fed them 3 of those 5 times one day of just pH'd water and a little h2o2.

I'm a little uncomfortable with this coco because I've never used it before. I also find it a bit of a pain in the arse having to hand feed them every day to two days. I just kind of set up my system to work for two plants and last minute rushed the others in, so had to make do. Next grow, I'm definitely using nothing but hydroton and Sensi Grow / Bloom line. Just cause I'm comfortable with it. I also plan on using Big Bud, Bud Candy, and Overdrive this round. Anddd I read Scorpion Juice can really up the trichs, so I'm considering it. Anyone have any input on 'em?
Pic 1 - big front one = God's Gift. Two in the hydroton = Purple Kush. Back right two = Oreo. Left of Oreo = Cataract Kush. Far back left = Unknown sativa.
Then you have the PK's up close to compare from last week.

Well, the two freebies weren't cutting it. I don't think they were going to make it, so I just tossed them. The intense heat stress from the ride home probably just did them in. Even the big God's Gift suffered a decent bit from it.

Anyway, no pictures of the plants today, but I realized I need to get these plants flowered asap, so I started flowering yesterday. They're all looking really good. Good progress since last update. Next update will come with pics.

Alll rightyyy. The plants are looking a lot better now. The purple kushes have recovered from being FIM'd and transplanted, and the others have recovered from the heat stress and transplantation. I changed the reservoir when I swapped to flowering. I lowered the ppm from 850 to 650 on the Purple Kushes, giving a mixture of Sensi Grow A/B and CNS17 bloom, with a pinch of that early flowering Open Sesame stuff and a little dosage of h2o2. The others are still getting the Canna Coco A/B at around 650 as well.

I plan to give everything a feed of just pH'd water today, and then I'll feed them again tomorrow with nutes.

Oh, I also gave a foliar spray of a little bushmaster+water 6.2 pH'd the day after they started flowering. I should have done it sooner, but I forgot.

On another note, I got my veg area setup, and it seems to be doing better than I thought it would. I was worried it would be too warm, because these t5 lights are putting out some heat on its shelf, but the plants are loving it. It's keeping it really humid and warm, and they've all sprouted.

I'm sprouting Fire OG x The White x Larry OG (I'm just calling Lightning OG for now, much easier) and some Albert Walker x Fire OG (I've called Firewalker OG). My plan is to just keep the best girl of each and keep them as mothers for my next grows. So the rest will be disposed of or other females will just be grown out next grow.

Here's some pics.

And if I have to say it, anyone can post here etc etc.

Well, a lot has gone down in my garden since last update. I've done quite a bit of rearranging to make things easier for me. I managed to succesfully swap my PK's that were in hydroton to coco, so now all my plants are in coco. It just makes it easier for me not to have to screw with two reservoirs, and also after having lots of long conversations with an experienced grower, coco is the way to go.

I also took off the top shelf of my little table and lowered everything to accomodate the crazy-growing Oreo's. Damn sativas are making me have to work extra hard to keep the indicas around the tops of them.

I've been feeding em in bloom with:

Canna Coco A/B
Open Sesame (a pinch)
Cannazyme and Rhyzotonic (only one feed two days ago because I got it late. Usually best to use Veg - Week 2 of flowering.)
Hydroplex
Organa Guano

And I gave them a foliar feed on Monday of Dutch Master Flower Folitech + Dutch Master Penetrator + a scotch of Bud Candy for carbs. I plan to foliar feed them again the next two Mondays and then be done with it.

My seedlings have also aged pretty well so far. They're about two weeks old from seed, and I've been feeding them:

Canna Coco A/B
Cannazyme / Rhyzotonic (every other or other other feeding)
Roots Organic (once)

Here are some pics.

Thanks, yeah, me too. I think it's going to be more OG-like than the Albert Walker x Fire OG because of the way they're growing already. Every seed I planted popped from both types, but only a couple Fire OG x The White x Larry OG have had any problems at all. There isn't a spec of nute burn or any deficiency on the AW x Fire OGs. Luckily, I'm just looking for one good pheno of each time, so it should be no prob. All these seeds are F1's of the crosses, so they're pretty unpredictable.

Cool, i got some F1's myself, and i got some more on my current plants i'll be harvesting with the buds.
is this your first breeding project as well?

Yessir. I haven't decided entirely what I plan to do breeding wise yet, but I'm definitely going to collect some pollen from my best male of each plant, and I'm definitely keeping one mother of each plant. I might get another Oreo and breed it with one of them. I really like them so far.

Yeah im doing the same, gonna dabble a lil bit with the crosses. Once i get my F2's, i'll probably hold on to them then work with something else, then decide what i really want to do.

Ah right on, yeah. One cool thing I'll like about working with one strain is screwing with the feed schedule on it and seeing what I can push it to.

@Big panda - thanks, I think this harvest will be a good one ;)

Just gave the babies a feed for the day. I'm feeding them every day in their little cups, and they're loving it. I use a mason jar that holds about 2 oz of bud to feed them. The mason jar itself feeds 8 plants consistently the way I feed them (pouring in until entire top area is covered with liquid, then stop). I've been just pouring the runoff back in and using that for the last four. I'm doing that cause I've pH and PPM tested the runoff and it's always right where it should be, so I don't worry about it. Today's feed was just Canna Coco A/B at around 300 ppm (some of which comes from my water), pH'd at 5.8. I gave them a very small dosage of Cannazym and Rhyzotonic last feed to go along with the A/B, and the feed before that was just pH'd Rhyzotonic, Cannazym, and some Roots Organic cause I had just gotten it. I don't plan to give them Roots Organic again until I transplant them into 3.5 gallon flowering pots. And the next feed will just be Canna Coco A/B again.

My plan for feeding the veg from now on, since I have the stuff and have given them their Roots Organic, is to:
First Day - Feed with Canna Coco A/B + Cannazyme + Rhyzotonic
Second Day - Feed with Canna Coco A/B
Third Day - Feed with pH'd water.
repeat, etc.

The flowering plants are getting a feed every other day of around 900 PPM (including PPM from water) with Canna Coco A/B + half cap Hydroplex + half cap Organa Guano + pinch of Open Sesame in a 5 gallon. I don't even have to pH adjust it, as the Canna line has a pH buffer, and Organa Guano drops pH a lot, which works well since my water comes out around 8.0, heh. I also give them a feed once a week of just pH'd water, though this week's was water + Cannazym + Rhyzotonic + Roots Organic that I just wanted to get in once in these plant's cycle. So I'm stopping those for flowering and also stopping the Open Sesame.
