well, as far as the easiest most simple handguns out there are revolvers. there are no slides or complicated moving parts, just a trigger and hammer. The smith & wesson 600 series(637,642, ect) are amazing little guns, they are built on a lightweight frame and capable of shooting .38 and .38+P(the round you want for defence) also the taurus judge actually is a great home defence gun, the 3" barrel model has an 18 inch spread at 20 feet with a No. 6 shot which is bout perfect for in home and there are a few companies really jumping on the bandwagon making 00 buckshot for the .410 now(3 9mm balls coming out at once).
Or if you like autos, Glocks are one of the most easy to use, reliable auto handguns out there. They come in every common handgun caliber(9mm, .40, .45, 10mm, .357sig, .50GI) As for safety on the glocks, it is all internal and on the trigger itself, when you look at them it looks like they have a double trigger(one inside the other) and until the trigger is completely dpressed that gun cannot fire no matter what you do. Also their barrels have whats called hexogonal rifling meaning that the shape of the barrel(hexogon) spirals and gives the rifling action to the bullet, this helps very much with their accuracy.

The S&W's mentioned above run $480-575 depending on where you are at
The taurus judge run $400-550 depending on if you get the 3" or 6" barrel, and if you get blued(black metel) or stainless steel.
Glocks range from 500 on up depending on which of the infinate number of extras you got on it lol but can pick up a standard model from 500-600
Yeah dude I could've gotten the price listing from GunsAmerica.... I was just curious on your take on the 3" and whether or not the 410 shotshell would provide adequate stopping power in the case of a home invasion, or something of the sort.

I have a question. I'll be looking for a USED CHEAP .22 rifle for plinking and target practice that fits an adults frame and can shoot both 22lr and 22 shorts. Doesn't need to cycle the shorts automatically, just work with either without jamming ea shot. Bolt action ok if there's one that would reliably feed and eject both through a clip.

What models should I be looking out for?
If you like autos the Ruger 10/22 is one of the best 22 cal rifles out their, base models start around 200 and there is an almost infinate list of aftermarket things for them(big magazines, new stocks, barrels, target/performance options) they don't cycle the shorts though. But they are an awsome little gun i have 2 currently one for plinking and the other i put a hogue stock and heavy barrel on for accuracy.
Also, the marlin model 60 is a great 22 which i own 2 of too lol. instead of clip style magazines it uses a tube magazin under the barrel, the 60 uses only 22 long rifle cartriges though. Prices range from 140-200 depending where you live, ect.

as for bolt actions, the CZ 513 is one of the most accurate little 22's i have ever worked with. they run about 240+-. their model 452 is another great, GREAT little gun. CZ makes a very good gun overall.
Savage also makes a good 22 bolt, the mark II runs about 150+-. and many times comes with a scope.

the pics below are of a ruger 10/22, marlin model 60, cz 513, and savage mark II

sorry i was mainly trying to anser the other guys ???'s but yea i think the 3 inch would be an almost ideal home defence gun, like i said the spread with a no 6 shot at 20 feet is about 18 inches(width of a human body) and the buckshot is a very lethal round it has 3 9mm slugs that would come out at once, ive played with the 3 and 6 inch models and like the 3 much better. the 6 is nice if you are only shooting the .45 colts, but with the shotshells, the rifling tends to put alot of spin on them and scatters the rounds.
For stopping power, it gives a little room to show escelation of force, with mine i load the first round as a N06 shot, and the subsequent rounds with buckshot so if i ever need to use it at least i can tell the cops "i gave him verbal warning, used a lesslethal round(6shot), and finally had to use the buckshot."
Now the speed at which i go from the first to second shot may not be very long however lol. but yess the .410 buckshot or slugs have more than enough stopping power.

If you go with the Taurus Judge you could use some type of buckshot in the 410 shells and every other cylinder you can use 45 long colt hollow points for stopping power. For close range you should have lots of stopping power with the 410. If the person has really heavy clothes I would recommend a face shot. The Taurus Judge is illegal in CA because it's considered a sawed off shotgun.

I just bought a Sig P226 a couple months ago, by far my favorite gun to date.

I also have a Walther P88, Remmington .308, and a Benelli M4 (which is sweet)!

From what I understand it IS legal in california because the barrel is rifled, which would make it not a shot barrel shotgun.

Yea all the browning levers have a Safety-A disconnect system is designed to prevent a firing until the lever and breech are fully closed and pressure is released from and reapplied to the trigger. Its definately a nice little option for kids so they cant act like John Wayne or Rambo lol. Is it the BL model?
That's it. That's the gun I learned to shoot on and it's still my favorite plinker. It's been the end of many a pesky turtle.

Very Nice two tone Sig you have there. I bought a 229 elite two tone in 9mm. Are you going to put anything on your tactical rail?

I've owned the ruger 10/22 before and it's a nice tiny gun but like you said it can't cycle shorts, neither will the marlin they both just jam reliably with them so it's even too much of a pain in the ass to feed shorts a round at a time.

I'll look into the other two, and the lever action that the other person suggested.

I've owned a shitload of guns before.... Just never did find one that fit this purpose well with the 22 short requirement. That and the ruger had a trigger like a toy gun more than even a 22 childs gun. What sandy heavy crap of a trigger that is. I didn't feel like I should need to shell out more money for new parts just to get a trigger that feels acceptable.

Sure like some other Rugers though. mk2 bull barrel target pistol was a lot of fun.

look at the CZ's i have yet to find anyone not impressed with them, and the stocks are made for adults so they are not short and tiny. also, i have never found a more accurate .22 than those 2 CZ models.

Well, the silencer is all dependant on where you live, some states allow them, others don't at all. Either way though its considered a class 3 device and requires registration with the batfe and a $200 a year tax to own it. Most for handguns range from 800-1200(depending on the gun mainly) The rugers are very nice "working man's" guns, they might not be the prettiest things ever but they will shoot every time lol.
In .40cal ruger makes:
KP series(KP944 and KP944th) these are their newest ones, i have not got to shoot these 2 yet but they are just a revised version of the P94's which are a very nice gun to shoot. The P and KP series are single/double action meanin they have a hammer and can shoot from the hammer down(long firm pull) or the hammer cocked(short light pull) after the first shot each shot after will be single action(hammer stays back)
They also have a safety decocker so when you load a round you can hit a lever to drop the hammer with out firing the round.
They are also tough as hell, Ruger handguns of all kinds(pistols and revolvers) are very strongly built. In fact my next handgun is going to be the Ruger SP101 .357mag to carry.

This is my only gun, it's just a little pistol that I bought from a friend a year ago...
Walther is actually owned by smith and wesson now and all the new ones have the walther then the S&W markings too. Yours is an older one, keep it. The price on those keeps going up big time. Its a very nice looking peice, no damage from what i could see, just make sure to keep it clean.

yea they can feel kinda like they want to tip back in your hand but they really shoot well. and the .380 is just a dumbed down 9mm anyway so with some nice ammo like the Gold Sabers you will have plenty of stoping power.
