Theoretical Questions

Hi guys love this forum, im what you would call a pseudo grower, or armchair grower. Im basically a stoner that had to satisfy his intellectual curiosity about how to grow. I found out that growing is a hobby i might enjoy.

However i have a few reservations and questions.

Im on a very low budget, and i can't afford (time wise, because my main focus is school) to invest sophisticated grow ops or spend hours on my plants per day. The other problem would be to convince my gf to let me grow in the apartment. Although she loves weed, she has reservations about growing.

my questions are more theoretical, im not looking for specific info, for i know that can be found elsewhere on the forums.

Therefore i'd like to know a few things based on all of your experiences.

1) What is the best format for growing in an apartment?
2) what is the best low investment style of growing?
3) can such a low cost system be adaptable to a perpetual harvest style system should i decide to continue past my first grow?
4) i only want to grow enough for my gf and I to enjoy on a regular basis, maybe 1-5 grams a week at most.
4) can said system be low in maintainance, im not the busiest guy in the world, but on certain days i wont be able to spend more then 20-30 mins on my plants

also which strains would be good for something like this? Im looking to have a variety to mix things up, like a couchlock type when its late and i just wanna chill, and a sociable high for when i got shit to do or wanna go out. Lowryder sounds good and is popular here in southern Ontario. any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks for the advice in advance.

Cheers.

1. closet/attic,grow closet.
2. flos are cheapest, but a hps is always better, for when you get to the 12/12 stage, bigger better buds thangrowing with just flos, flos are best just for vegg, but so is hps aswell as flos.
3 yes. one grow closet/home mqde or old, and hps lite 400, prob grow 2 to 6 plants, 2 oz min each.
4 . yes as long as you keep to reg. timing and feeding sceds, times are best, incase your not there to do it, and you only have to feed and water 2 to 3 times a week.
4 sk#1 is easy to start with. thc about 12. big bang is also a easy plant to grow thc 18. couch lock. dont start with w.w cos there prone to hermie, as are hybreds,. stick to sk#1 for a first plant.

me and my wife did cfl's on extremely low budget...
and just purchased extra lights as we could. in the end we had 5 26 watt daylight spec.
we got about 3 quarters of an ounce from the plant. she was a little less than three feet high

we got our soil from the dollar store, and used miracle grow nutes and molasses for flowering.

the cfl bulbs are like 6 or 7 dollars for 2 or 3 bulbs... get a couple y sockets that turn one light socket into two and two of those should be good to get you through veg. but don't make the mistake we made, or at least that we think we made. we used the daylight spec throughout the grow but it is high in blue and low in red light, red is what the plant uses for flowering. get a timer at a hardware store for like four bucks and a couple buckets. we got a lot of stuff at the dollar store like the plant buckets and stuff. keep the light no more than a couple inches away from the plants and watch em grow. water when necessary. they will be low maintenance but chances are you won't get to take a vacation from them.

Seriously man. You get a floro bulb for plants ($10-$15), and a plug in light component($25 approx). Get a cheap fan at Big Lots ($5) or something just to keep the wind moving, and an electric timer ($15-$20) to keep the light cycle right, and throw it all in your closet. (free). Unless you want to get all fancy, dirt is, well, dirt cheap. Get some nutes and some water, and boom, you're a Farmer.
I know reading this site can make pot growing seem very complicated, because it can be, but Marijuana is a weed, and a hearty weed at that. The info here is for hobbyists and people trying to max out the power of their weed. I love growing almost as much as smoking. It is a hobby that can suck you in and make you be willing to go all out, but Weed existed long before High Pressure Sodium bulbs and liquid nutrient Hydroponic solutions, so just start small and work your way up.

The one thing you have to consider is the odor--these babies really start to stink in the final weeks of flowering, so be careful. However, If you can smoke it in your house without bringing any attention, the smell of two or three plants won't be any problem at all.
As for the GF thing-dude, what is safer: growing it quietly in a closet, or running around, trying to score from people you may or may not know very well? Think about it!
If you are not selling and everything happens inside your home, you are a thousand times safer growing your own than buying on the street. Tell her this--it should calm her fears.

As for seeds, well, there are places--if you're looking for a cheap mail order seed for chilling, get a good Indica like Bubblegum Kush or A hybrid like White Widow.
Remember-Indicas are smaller and grow quickly, and offer that physical, body high. Sativas are tall, take at least a month longer to grow than an Indica, and is that talkative, speedy mental high. Most plants today are some hybrid of the two.
Good luck man. Just convince the missus that it is safer, cheaper and so much more rewarding than going out to score smoke. Trust me, the more you get into it, the more you love it. There is nothing in the world like firing up bud that you grew yourself.

thanks for the quick replies guys, all good info.

convincing the misses mighz``t not be as hard as i expected. The guy we grab off is a work friend of hers, and i casually mentioned it like 5 mins ago, because she and her friend are in a bit of a tiff. I know she has no moral quams with growing, i know its mostly a money issue, seeing as we have rent and bills to pay and i haven't even paid off school for this year.....

I understand where your coming from, i play guitar aswell, and i wouldn't recommend a newb to go buy a Gibson SG and a marshall half stack to start out with right away. Start small and work with what u got.

Keep it comming guys!
