Anthem made a big impression on me…when I was 12….
That is when I discovered E. E. “Doc” Smith. I dont think anyone has wrttten purer space opera. A quote:

“Planets. Seven of them. Armed and armored as only planets can be.”

They were met by a sunbeam. The entire output of a star, gathered and pointed in one blinding direction. Oh I loved those books.

closest thing: the wave-motion gun. Is there any wonder that my paint-peeling stereo is called the Wave-Motion Engine?

For a moment you have to consider these millions of people you’re referring to, myself included, give two shits about January 6th. It means absolutely nothing in the scheme of things and daily life in my opinion. People are even allowed to think the election was rigged! The horror I know! That doesn’t make them right - or Inherently bad people either. You’re not allowed to limit them from believing or talking about something that may not be true (see organized religion)

Nothing those people chose to do at the capital has anything to do with anyone else in my opinion. If someone breaks a law it’s their own choice. A few thousand citizens breaking in to a building in DC with selfie sticks and baseball bats was going to somehow overthrow democracy? What exactly was their master plan? If that were the case don’t you think the Pentagon would have had an actual response ready? My perspective comes from former service.

The capital building isn’t the republic - we are

If the 74 million citizens who voted for Trump and who vote for republicans really are what you say they are - there would have been an actual over throw of government. Except there wasn’t. We all just went along living life, while a few thousand people made a choice to do what they did. Pretty shitty attempt if you ask me considering the whole bring a bat to a gunfight scenario
bump.

I thought of this post after voting last Tuesday. The fucker was perfectly fine that Trump called up a mob and sent them to attack Congress in his coup attempt. But it's OK because they failed. wtf?

Rioting in the Capitol Building in an attempt to overthrow an election and murder Trump's political enemies means "absolutely nothing" to him.

It does to the 80 million people they tried to disenfranchise.

The elections this fall and in '24 are some of the most important ones we'll ever have.

I will forever disagree with you and have a differing opinion on the why and what behind it. Go ahead and vote though, at least we have that in common.

Trump lost the election and tried to disenfranchise me. It's not a matter of disagreeing with his asshole Republican followers. It's a matter of never forgetting what your kind tried to do to this country.

We saw it. I get that you don't care. That is a serious problem for this country. Fortunately, you and your kind are the minority party. All we need to do is show up and vote your asshole leaders out.

I'll give Trump credit for one thing. He united Democrats and freedom loving Independents. I'll bring that post up again, Mr I "can't give two shits" about the invasion of our Capitol Building in an attempted coup. Fuck that.

you can keep your ideology and I’ll keep voting for my wallet and not fearing events outside of my control.

All while your kind leads us into a recession and negatively impacts their own voter base.

It will be interesting to revisit this discussion in November and then again in 2024.

even if Biden were leading us into a recession, the republicans would still be ahead at a better than ten to one ratio...
perhaps our voter base is mature enough to realize that we cannot get everything we want immediately, that we have to make sacrifices for the greater good of all, which is something republicans seem to have a grasp on, but in reverse. they want what they want, when they want it, even if it sinks their own boat. they want everything right now, and a whipping boy to take their frustrations out on when they don't get what they want. they are supposed to be the leaders, the law makers, but all they want is someone to tell them what to do, and to shift blame to when their plans don't come to fruition.
voting for ones wallet is what put us into the fucked up situation we're in. some things are more important than prosperity. respect, integrity, acting in an honorable manner...those things will bring prosperity, once you prove you have them. they are the tools honest people use to compete in the economy, and the political arena with lying, cheating, shit talking fascist who want to keep the poor poor, the uneducated uneducated, and the hateful hating, so no one notices while they destroy democracy for their personal profit.

You simply don't get it.

This isn't about the economy, stupid. It's about freedom and defending our rights. What Trump wants to do is become a dictator. He admires them and said so himself. Once in power his cronies can suck up your assets and fuck you in the ass if you object. They will use minorities and poor people as scapegoats but they will use you like a piggybank.

But you don't care because you don't think it will happen to you, just others.

The Republican Party should change it's name and logo:

Fortunately, the majority sees what's going on. At least they did in 2020. They see what Trump and his fascist party represent. But you think your pocketbook will protect you if they manage take over. The leopard won't eat your face. lulz

Trump and his Republican base are more like Lenin and his Bolshevik followers in 1918 than anything the Republican Party has ever been like. Pick your era. Ike, Reagan, Bush Sr, Bush Jr. Maybe Nixon but even then, Republicans went against Nixon when the tapes were released. Republicans have become more like radical communists in the early 20th century than anything we've seen in this country since the Civil War.

We all know what happened after the Bolsheviks won the Russian civil war.

So now Trump is endorsing one in the US.

In an interview with CNN, Conway said Republicans were willing to look the other way from Trump’s incendiary rhetoric because “they’re terrified of him.”
“But they’re also terrified of a Republican base that’s become increasingly radicalized,” he continued. “That actually does believe that people who politically disagree with them are a threat to the nation and therefore violence could be necessary to fight them off, and that’s what we saw in this social media post.”
“The suggestion is that somehow we are headed towards civil war or there should be civil war, or something to that effect, and for a former president of the United States and leading contender for the 2024 Republican nomination to even be talking about that and suggesting that is absolutely appalling.”
