I have a neat toy that I use to dispatch any vermin that decide to take up residence in my barn or shop. I have an old gen.1 night vision scope ( good to about 45yds) that I can slap on it for close quarter night sniping.
4x16x42 scope, green laser and bipod and it weighs about 8.7 lbs. fully assembled.

.22 cal, totally suppressed, power adjustable to over 1500fps and deadly accurate out to 100 yds. Yea, bb guns have grown up a bit.

The only good rat, is a dead rat.

Peace

I thought i got rid of all the rats but they are back .
I have this old bbq out the back , i've been putting food scraps in it at night , by morn all gone
there is rat poop inside the bbq , You see in 1 pic they chewed through a duck bone.
Anyway i made this home made trap , it's a bucket with 1 hole at each end and wire threaded through middle ,
with a bottle on the wire that spins and peanut butter spread all over for bait .
The plan is the rat walks up the wood and jumps onto bottle that spins and rat ends up in the bucket with 4" of water in the bottom (drowned rat)
It's been 2 nights and no rat has taken the bait , yet they have taken food out of the bbq .
Anyone got any better ideas regarding this trap setup ?
I could buy a rat trap , put it in the bbq and bang dead ratus . There's no fun or skill in that though !
What's your ideas people ?
Clint, your bottle is too high up in your trap. Looks to me that a rat could easily stay perched on the ramp and get peanut butter without making the jump. You need to get a slightly taller container and drop the bottle lower in the trap. And for god sakes be a tad humane, fill the trap with cheap ass alcohol; let the fucker drown and die drunk.

Had a small family of mice living rent free here for awhile... made the same device you did Clint.. but I used a 50 gal barrel.. worked great.. used peanut butter and caught the 1st one within about 10 mins.. so I go over to look inside the 50 gal and see him at the bottom (did not use water in mine..was gonna be a humane trap) so I look in and the mouse freaks and starts running around the barrel and makes it to the top of the barrel too.. he is exhausted tho and he's looking at me I'm looking back thinking WTF.. this mouse just ran around the inside of the barrel to make it to the top no way would a 5 gal bucket worked.. I tap the barrel and he falls back in.. relocated a few this way.. but since we got Gretchen the mouse pop has fallen.. she's gotten 2 so far..
Was thinking the same thing. I figure if a rat falls into a bucket that size, it jumps out. Probably can make it out of a drum too. Surprised that the peanut butter is unmolested. Are you sure there's no sign of rat/peanut butter action? I'm guessing if you replaced the water with glue your results would be different. But I think glue traps are inhumane.

You need anti freeze instead of water in the bucket.rats are crazy good swimmers.put more peanut butter on the bottle! And if you can,put the ramp against the wall, rats like to walk along walls vs open areas.

and yes,the anti freeze poisons it !

Night vision goggles, and archery practice. Kinda a reverse Dodgeball -- If you can pin a rat to the wall, you can kill a deer...

If you stay with water in bucket they can swim but cant swim and jump nor climb when its wet use your same rig and put food on a floating piece of plastic sponge anything that barely floats the scraps. they go in get food and cant get out we have rats at work and we catch them bitches all the time hell the smaller rats well babies we put food scraps in toilet they go in cant get out as the porcalin is to slick and drowned flush the toilet and there gone no bullshit

Need more water and use a 5 gal bucket. Rats are huge. They are prob just jumping out of that thing lol. Put 2 gal of water in a 5 and you're good. Rat poison works well too.

When i was a kid on the farm i used to set leg hold traps in their runs in the barn, dispatch them any way you want after that.

Well why didnt you say so, you dont have to spring load this snare, set it up where he goes through. You may be able to use some 1/8 inch nylon cord , if he gets his teeth in it before he blacks out hes gone, but you did say you wanted to go rambo on him.

Youtube small animal snares, trip snares etc. The trigger is super simple so dont be intimidated , If you want a loaded snare there are simple ways to use anything with weight .
