You can build a small led light for really cheap for something like this

Yup! That's also my thinking. If you want to be part of that contest get a few EB stips and a HLG-80H-20A. Such a birdcage like greenthumb's is really cheap and can be done for less than a hunni.

It really is not that expensive these days, you can get good used lights on e3ay for little money.
A Quantumboard120 or even a 65 plus a cheap e3ay CV driver would be enough ..

You only must imagine what Cletus would have looked like with 2 or 3 weeks veg. This birdcage really makes sense and you'll never have to worry about larf again, as every single bud gets strong and hard down to the bottom.

Fair enough if you guys want an LED contest but take "ORIGINAL" out of the name. Was the original comp LED only? When did the comp switch to an exclusive club. Kicking out the natives and making it a private club for "LED ONLY". Maybe we need a few of the boys in the politics section to stop by and see what they think.
Truth is if we drummed up all the HPS growers on RIU to join the comp it would be devastating to the image of LED on RIU, a set back that you all fear.

I read the rules, no problem there.
I already have a closet picked out for an LED grow in future LED comps.
I'm either going to get a COB or build a strip cage like Big Green Thumb did.
Should be entertaining.
Whatever it takes to play against one of my favorite Old Timers, it's gonna happen.
Just seems like it would benefit to let guys like me play so the LED players can kick my ass like they did in the other comp. LED would look better beating HPS than they do when they play with themselves.

Rest assured, the next comp will be exactly called like that!
You should not complain so much about the rules.. better get you an LED for the next comp, so we can see if you are a grower or if everything is just blah blah. If you guys can grow only half as well as you can complain about the rules,
we have no chance anyway..!
Too much complaining could cause theDawg to lose the interest to host the contest.
We already have so few here in the LED area and I would rather see more contests than even less ..
Because of me also HPS vs. LED, for god's sake...!
You could look yourself for sponsors if you like winning prizes. That's all a lot of work and theDawg did it in his free times ... not to forget...without being able to win anything!

I'm running some practice cups now.
One in new soil, one no till. Both are healthy and are 8" and 9 inches tall at 22 days from germination.
They should yield higher than my other 5 plants that I topped just when they began to flower.
Only bummer is just like my other comp plants that I topped, these are beginning to flower on day 22. I need to find a better strain that does not flower so quickly under 12/12.
One thing is great. I started my comp plants under 400 W MH and I was all over the place with the light because I was trying to maximize growth. I'm relaxed now and this time not being topped and being under 600 W Hortilux I think they will both break my 1st time solo cup grow of 9 grams.
This is today before getting water.
