The miracle of GMOs!

So, Good Dr. Did you not opine that nothing GMO has been wildly successful to date....not even moderately successful, right? RoundUp Ready is already a joke.

BT cotton has been wildly successful in india, but other than that, not so much. in the US BT cotton doesnt get you that much benefit, but in india and the third world where getting pesticides is chancy at best, and getting it applied right is highly unlikely, BT cotton has saved many farmers from ruin.

cotton's vulnerability to boll weevils makes it an ideal candidate for GM fiddling, since cotton is not a staple food crop and is devastated easily by a single pest, adding the BT production genes to the cotton plant has proved awesome for farmers who have neither the money nor the access to pesticides. even if the long term risks of consuming crops which produce BT proves to be a problem, since very few people eat tnough cottonseed oil to make up even 1% of their diet, the risks become much less severe than when dealing with corn, soya, rice or wheat.

as far as actually increasing yields, or eliminating pesticide use, nope. GM has thus far been more hype than hotness.
