The lollipop method

Hey subcool i was wondering if you knew much about this method? I know you have been growing for a long time and so i was wondering if you have ever grown like this? I cant really find any good info on it besides you cut 1/3 of the bottom nodes off. Any help i would really appreciate, cant wait for the book.

That method is commonly used in SCROG because the canopy is so full, there's no chance of light penetration to the lower parts of the plant, therefore their growth is stunted and it just uses nutrients/energy that would otherwise be going toward the tops of the plants, therefore the lower 1/3 of the plants growth is removed so all that energy goes to the top and produces larger, healthy buds at screen level. It also aids in good ventilation through the plant and allows better air circulation. The 'lollipop method' as you called it, has many uses, but is most common in SCROG grows for sure.

i am talking about the method where you cut the lower branches you produce one big cola.

So am I, just a variable version of it.

The lower branches of a plant are usually small fluffy buds (called popcorn nuggets). A lot of people don't like these so they remove all lower growth so that the plant puts all its nutrients and energy into the top of the plant (as I mentioned in the last post).

Like I said, it has a lot of uses.

Nice thanks fdd, so dont prune until flowering? That was really my only question, when to prune.

i often start during veg. it really doesn't matter. i have trimmed as far as 4 weeks into flowering with no ill effects. :blsmoke:

Yes I heard about trimming the 1/3 during flowering, which is what I did last time (becuz of advice through riu). But I still have trouble believing that that doesn't shock or slow down the flowering stage. How could cutting off the 1/3 in the middle of flowering not cause stress and slow down bud production...why is this not done in veg?

that is what i was thinking too murty, also since you have grown like this before fdd, does the plant still produce about a equal yield to your others that you dont lollipop?

Damn, FDD, every time you post a pic of your plants I'm impressed all over again!! Your grows are an inspiration! :)

The 'written method' for doing this is to prune 2 weeks before flowering, again when you switch to 12/12 and again 2 weeks into flowering. It's in one of the old time cannabis growing books. I think it's the book 'How to Grow Medical Marijuana' ... Of course like all cannabis growing methods, it can be altered to how you like it and what you find works best for you.

I think I'm going to try that method next time GPhoenix. The two weeks b4 flower will give it time to recover b4 the shock of the hours switch. Then two weeks after the 12/12 switch you will be able to make a good 1/3 cut after the plant has stretched. We shall see.
