I flood every 2 hours during lights off to keep the res nice
So your schedule is...

Lights on ˃ pump 15 minutes running and the pump 45 minutes off.
Lights off ˃ pump 15 minutes running and the pump 1 hour and 45 minutes off

Correct?

The drain pipe is cut short so it waterfalls into the res.
At what height did yoy cut it off?

And what height does the waterlevel reach?
I mean, is the diameter of the pipe big enough that it can handle all the water that comes in while your pump runs?

You wrote somewhere that your pump has a large cappacity.
Do you know the cappacity by any chance?
How long does it actually take to reach the maximum waterlevel?

I know it is sunday, but I give it a try anyway

Yeah I could have started this thread in hydro section, or the grow journal section but I do use LEDs now so I just opened it here. I have not really talked about lighting much in this thread, my lights are pretty standard really so nothing much to talk about, I prefer to talk about plants :)
Exactly as a thread should be - sharing some actual plant growing rather than another "this driver or that cob / Qb" thread.
Keep up the good work brother :hump:

No, I was talking about plants in pots of clay there. For no medium SoG the feeding schedule is:

15 mins on, 45 mins off for lights on and lights off. As there is no medium you need to prevent the roots from drying out.

I will take a picture later when the lights come on as it will be clearer. But I cut off the drain hose about 10cm above the water level in my res so there is always a waterfall when the tray drains. Standard flood and drain fittings are 13mm fill and 19mm drain (I think) so the drain is always bigger than your fill so it can never overflow even if a pump is left on. You use a riser on the drain to set the fill level. I just use a single riser. A picture will be better explanation.

The pumps I use are 1050L / hour flow rate. It reaches the overflow within about 3 mins.

Thanks mate. The last thing this place needs is another QB thread

I totally agree.
But the Hydro section is in desperate need of a thread like this, because there, there a lot of people are stuck in 'You NEED a medium' and 'DWC is superior'.

Ah, I think I get it.
I have the set similar as in the picture.
1 element is about 4 cm high.
The interior diameters of the fittings are about 10 mm and 16 mm.

I noticed that you had no plant above the drain.
Did you do that because you are afraid that roots would grow into it?

DWC grows nice plants but I like to do pheno hunts from seed, and for that I use pots of clay balls so its easier for me to just have one system for both production and testing. Everyone told me mediumless F&D wouldnt work.

Yes those are the fittings. Here is how I have mine set up in the tray with just a single riser:

And here is the drain waterfalling back into the res. Dont need an airstone, plenty of oxygen.

Exactly. You can have a plant there, as long as you check it every day once they get big. Sometimes I go a couple of days without entering my grow so for safety I dont have one there...but I try to have a clone that has 2 stalks so it fills the canopy:

Great pics and good explination.

Do you ever totally change the water plus nutes in your reservoir?
Or do you just top off?
And if so, do you just top off with tapwater and then adjust the Ph and the PPM to your standsards?

Flood for 15 mins on 45 mins off with Canna Flores A&B and PK 13/14 for a week in the middle of flower.
You don't use any other products from Canna, like Rhizotonic or CannaZyme or CannaBoost?

Forgive me for the amount of questions, but this is the first topic in a long time that gets me excited.
I do no want to use the word 'boner' as someone else did, but it is damn close...

These lowers were all chopped over the next week

Day 63 all done

View attachment 4101661

And the best thing of all about growing with no medium, the clean up.

View attachment 4101662

Gather all the roots up into a ball, into the compost. A quick spray with H2O2 and you are good to go again

Next in line is a test run. Looking for mums is my favourite thing to do. A bunch of strains here, mostly freebies but you never know...

And in the tray next door another SoG is chugging along...

Still trimming the OG run. Have I mentioned how much I hate trimming yet?

This brings us up to about a week ago. I will update this thread spazmodically and also drop the dry weight on that 400W, 3x3 SoG run when I finish trimming...

...about a pound ;)
Yes.
This.
This is how i want to operate. I am done with promix.

I will be back in a couple months to ask many questions in a couple months, once i get my space reconfigured and set up with tables and such.

In the mean time... one question... i believe you said you were yielding about a pound per 3x3 table with your method here. I plan to do two 4x4 tables with cobs and im wondering about yield... thinking 1.5 lbs per table should be doable?

At the very minimum I dump the whole res after the PK boost week. If I am feeling motivated I will dump it every 2 weeks. But yes, in between dumps I top off with tap watet and adjust PH and PPM.

Nothing else. I add H2O2 to my res every few days so using any organic products like Cannazyme would be useless anyway. I just like to keep things simple. No worries for questions, all good, I would like to see more people rocking SoGs!

Sure why not. It is strain dependent. If you run cookies, you will yield less, if you run Blue Dream you will yield more. But for a medium yielding, top shelf strain, I see no reason why not.

How long does it take for your tray to totally drain?

Did you ever consider to change the pump schedule to 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off, 15 minutes on, 15 minutes off, etc.?
Or 15 minutes on, 30 minutes off, 15 minutes on, 30 minutes off, etc.?
Then perhaps (I am not sure) the plants would have nutrients for a longer time available, and still would get enough oxygen.

I have never times it but I would say at least 5 mins to drain once the pump goes off as once it drops below the riser on the drain, it then all drains back through the small fill hose.

I have done 30 / 30. I cannot tell any difference in the plants growth, yield etc.

Say....
With all the water in the res and the tables... how big of an effect on room RH is there?

Or is your res outside the grow space?

The room intakes air from my house and exhausts outsids so the RH is linked to the outside environment. I have a dehuey and lots of air flow as my location does get quite humid.

When outside RH is 50% my room runs at about 55 with no dehuey.
