I’m hand watering these at the min and it’s some pain in the hole haha. Iv no space for a res so I have to mix it up and water every 2 or 3 days. Give me automation any day.

How are your monkey fans doing? All 3 of mine have packed in. Got about 2 weeks out of them then the motor started getting stuck. The fan wasnt turning and motor was getting red hot. Could of burnt the house down

Hi Guys,

Ok, I'm new at this so please go easy on me.

I'm going to start a grow in my wardrobe. I've got some AK-47 Feminized seeds from Nirvana. I also have two LED Lights.

I'll germinate the seeds using the paper towel method I guess and then put them into small pots (although I also have sponge pots)

But what soil/compost should I use - I will be getting it in Woodies?

I understand that for about the first two weeks the plants should have 24 hours of light, is this right?

I'm sure I'll be back later with more questions but if I could get some help just to get started that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome buddy.

Ok you dont want to get any soil that has any nutes in it anything that says "feeds your plants for blank weeks" because youll burn your plants.

And regards to your light schedule it would be best to have them on an 18/6 schedule because plants need a dark period for photosynthesis to take place.

Anymore questions feel free to ask

Happy growing

Thanks Spud for your quick reply.

So can I use 'Shamrock Potting Compost' or 'Shamrock Multi-Purpose compost' or 'Westland Multi-Purpose Compost'? (I'm looking at the different types on the woodies website).

So for two weeks I should do 18/6 then go to 12/12?

Thanks

Id usually go with 24hrs for the first week when they are seedlings, once they have their first leafs I change to 18/6 so they can focus on roots. Normally veg for 4weeks under 18/6 then flip to 12/12.

Not sure about Woodies soil, the preloaded stuff you don't have to feed for the first few weeks but you'd want to check the npk ratio on the bag. You can get Bioboz All Mix soil which has nutes and that's fine for about 4 weeks before you'll see some deficiencies. Its €15 a bag in any hydro store.

Hi Emerald,

Thanks for the reply. I actually don't even have permission to read all the contents of that link you posted :(
This is frustrating, I can't even find teh 'like'button aaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh

Managed to read what was in that link now - I had to click-on 'Discussion'.

It said I'm not allowed to ask for likes and if I do I get banned so I edited my previous post. I hope it's not to late. Admin, I'm sorry I didn't know.

Ah you should be fine, you'll get them up in no time. You should start up a journal and check out other grows.

What kind of LED have you got?

Ok lets start all over again. Sorry for being all over the place.

So I googled this Bioboz All Mix soil but I cant find any in my area - Dublin 15. By any chance do you know anywhere nearby that might stock it.

They are square LED lights. They are called 'Grow Panel Light Hydroponics Lamps AC85-275V 2009LEDs for flowering plants indoor grow box' on Aliexpress. I got the 120w one.

Dublin Indoor gardening have bags of it. They’re based out in Tallght they have a website too if you google them.

If your growing in soil you can go directly into the soil or use root riot cubes or the pellets that absorbed water. Ya can pick them up for couple cents in the store. I’d say they would be better than the sponges they look more suited to hydro.

Dont even bother with the woodies soil as that will give you extra difficulties.
Go ta any grow shop and get any brand lightmix soil. put seeds in small pot and cover with plastic bag or mini propagator. Soak/flush the soil before putting in the seeds.
Have low expectations for your first grow and be prepared to spend money on your next.

You are going to need better lights for flowering, even a few CFLs would help..

I would get a better light the ones you have arent worth a shite man honestly. Is buying a tent an option? Then you could splash out and buy a 400watt hps or if your willing to work to control the heat then get a 600watt hps but honestly the lights you have are gonna be bad

Thanks guys for your replies. Too hard for me to get to Tallaght (dont drive). Found one place that I can cycle to. Will go tomorrow.

Will get this: http://urbangardening.ie/pr6958-biobizz-light-mix-soil-50l-589.html

What else should I pick up please?

Thanks
Yeah that's the stuff, you won't have to feed for the first few weeks which is a weight off especially when you're starting out. Are you using nutrients or going organic?

Look into getting a pH pen. Amazon have cheap ones or you could use the pH strips, can pick them up for couple euro. Ideally, you would want to upgrade that light, it won't produce very much. You can get HPS kits for about €70 online or add a few 24w 2700k/4000k CFLs for flower, but if funds are limited at least you can learn from this one and look into getting something different next time.

Other things to consider would be environment i.e extraction fan and carbon filter, intake fan (or go passive), oscillating or a desk fan to move air. What size grow space have you got?

Am I using nutrients or organic - to be honest, I've got no idea at all.

PH Pen - I have this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tester-Water-Moisture-Garden-Flower/dp/B00FC83EWG/ref=sr_1_10?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1530908070&sr=1-10&keywords=ph+meter

Upgrade Light - I have four of these, would these be better:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B000F5FNXE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I also have a desk fan.

Its a single wardrobe but its big enough for two plants.

The ph tester you have is for testing the soil you need one so you can ph your nutrient solution. You can get a cheap ph pen on amazon.

Them lights will be alot better then the leds but you probably want a couple more if you want to get a decent yield.

Desk fan will do for moving air in the wardrobe but youll need an extractor fan to vent out the hot and stale air in the wardrobe and a carbon filtee on the end of it to combat the smell when your in flower.
