The GreenSanta Grow

It depends on the genetics franjan. Some will throw nanners in response to environment (light leak, too much/too little N, root disturbance, etc), others gonna throw'em no matter what you do - takes expirimentation to tell. Yes it is a survival trait... but not a handy survival trait for a grower who's doing sensemilla :) I don't mind nanners if they are my fault... do mind if they're every grow no matter what :)

+Rep to DrGxSB. You should have some naming competitions for all your experiments btw. Do a poll in Toke and Talk. Could be fun, (and a nightmare). LOL

And there's something I've been meaning to ask you about nanners. Basically MrNice is saying you don't throw the baby out with the bathwater and that you're gonna get some nanners. Now you could also excrapolate ;) that nanners are a survival mechanism triggered by environmental conditions/stresses. That a good strain will produce nanners as an attempt to survive. So I've been growing Black Widow now for a while and have 3 good phenos I may keep. One is prone to nanners. Heat and age seem to bring them on but I can't really tell, I'm just looking for patterns since I have little control over my environment in the spring/summer. Is there anyway to find conditions were you don't have to worry about any appearing or are they going to appear no matter what? Like if I keep the plants within a certain temp range or RH. I like this strain but I don't want to have top pull out my plants every other day and go over them top to bottom looking for the little bastards. Or is it if I want guarantees, move on to something else. Thanks Santa!

And the SBxC does look very good. That was a good cross it seems.
Well in all my years of ...Cough "commercial".... growing:P almost never did the girls herm on me in cool/low RH conditions during flower. High temps/rh I saw my fair share of bitches growing balls. Yes some will push nanners no matter what, BUT if it's a common occurrence in your grow room then their is a flaw in your grow tactics/environment....

THANK YOU all for contributing to my thread!

I am waiting to see the end results before giving any names ... only the keepers will be named :eyesmoke:

Dont forget that the main problem i had with nanners were with the 2 dr.grinspoons which were heirloom sativas and some of the seeds i am growing now are from the dr.g female pollen as well. ( I know I am crazy I couldnt resist growing some of them )

my rooms have been running VERY warm since February and I am fully aware that it is far from optimal, that alone is probably responsible for half the hermies.

I have grown at least one plant of each of my crosses without nanners. I have a copy of SB X NYCD and SB X CHEMO with no nanners and the SB X NYCD was grown in the room that is often around 28-30 at lights on, its a very small yielding pheno, super frosty I am looking forward to run the copy.

I have grown many SB X NYCD and many SB X GG with nanners.

I have a copy of my favourite one at the moment (the SB X CHEMO) and she shows no nanners 1 week from harvest and the pics will speak for themselves!!

EDIT : not to mention the problems I had with my digital timer (light staying on) and recently I was away and for almost a week I had only 1 light going on in room2 ...

Great tip PSUA I didn't even think about that... there are plants that don't like to throw nanners at the same time others will, so it is worth looking for those genes 'just in case' :)

I guess I got lucky this round room got up to 87 on a few occasions (mostly around 83-84 tops) but no nanners or hermies this round. I gotta get back to trimming... successful runs do make you feel good, but they make you a busy trimmer.

Thanks for the words of wisdom gang. Heats been a killer already with a 90F peak when my UVB kicks on midday. Right now I've got 2 "Hermietta's" about 10 days from finishing and I'm so sick of going over every inch of them to avoid "Seed Fest 2013 Part Deux". The flavor of this BW pheno is amazing and I hate to lose her, but I've decided I'm not going to risk any more crops over her when her siblings are almost as tasty and deal with my environment better. I think heat is my main culprit but I really should try to keep a calender with my girl's ages cause I do tend to let my plants run a bit longer than most do.

THRIPS ALERT!!

untitled-12.jpguntitled-13.jpguntitled-11.jpg

The fuckers are moving fast!! Last week I thought the marks on the leaves were due to the lack of light from having 3 lights turned off for about a week... then I came back home and saw all the spots everywhere!! I was so pissed at myself...

Anyway, ladybugs coming soon and cucumeris (thrips destroyer) as well.... bye bye little pests. This run is going to suffer significantly from those 2 events....

2 x SpaceBomb(TGA) X Chemo (Jordan of the Island)

I have no copy of the younger one, too bad coze I would love to grow her again, she carries the smell of spacebomb with a hint of chemo... so pleasant!!

She has been shocked tremendously from no lights in crucial part of development... she was the furthest from the one light source so she had a very dark week. ... and the little thrips have been feeding on her as well.
untitled-4.jpg

HOWEVER >>> LOOK AT WHOS DOING FANTASTIK!! :weed:

Let me introduce you to my very first keeper, the one and only beautiful plant ... a cross that no longer exist ... (NO MORE SEEDS!!!) my first keeper is a clone only strain!!! so glad to have a copy of her!!!! I am guessing another week... she is about 57 days into flowering and both strains in the cross are 55 dayers at most.

untitled-9.jpguntitled-6.jpguntitled-10.jpguntitled-8.jpguntitled-7.jpguntitled-5.jpg

I am looking forward to take pics of her outside of the room, she appears to be so frosty!! the camera is not working well right now and it was not cooperating ... Anyway, the buds are the perfect size for my liking, any bigger and I would be worry about mold. The smell in the jar will play a huge roll in whether I will keep my mother for a while are not. But right now, she is definitely up there with the best plant I have grown!

Dr.Grinspoon's baby, the cool pheno. This seed I got from one of the DR.G looks even more like the real deal than any of the 2 plants I grew previously.
untitled-17.jpguntitled-14.jpguntitled-15.jpguntitled-16.jpg

DIY smart pot hehe ... I used coco fabric, I bought 11 feet and I thought I would be good for 2 but it's not super sturdy so I doubled everything up. On the costly side but at the same time I was able to do the exact size I want and it took me only 40 minutes to put together. The pics with the smart pot in it is a Oregon smart pot 15 gallons.... so My pot should be somewhere around 35-45 gallons.
untitled-22.jpguntitled-21.jpguntitled-20.jpguntitled-19.jpg

yes you read me right, almost 50 gallons container for indoor growing AM I CRAZY!!! Yes I am. Look up No-till ROLS (recycled organic living soil) thread for more detail.

I will do a perpetual all over the place in this container, plants from seed, clones ... there will be many plants in this container, in fact, this container will be in the room for a LONG TIME so wish me good luck and stay tuned for updates!

GS have you tried topdressing compost yet? On the bug sit. Look up viagrowtm fabric pots on amazon. Best deal around. They are taller than they are wide. But more sturdy and aerates more than smart pots. I'm on my 4th batch with them and they are just as sturdy as when I bought them. I paid $36 and some change for 10. 7 gal pots. Shipping included.

I cant believe you still got grinspoon going.... looks very dank though

haha grinspoon are not the ones I grew back in November! these are the babies!! I had seeds in the buds from the spacebomb pollen I used. Maybe they also self pollinated themselves.

Thanks for the info I had never seen those viagrowtm!! Super cheap 8 $ for a 25gallons!

Mine comes up to be about 40$ but I didnt have to wait for shipping... a bit more expensive than I thought. Like I said I thought I was going to make 2 out of the 3ftx11ft coco fabric.

I found all the ones on the internet were too high, like you say, taller than they are wide. (can be fixed easily by folding the top...)

I also liked the fact that my container will be a living container! eventually the coco will decompose as well. I saw the fabric and I had to try it hehe. Its meant to be pot liners.

I found those on accident. I was looking for other fabric pits and came across those.

The living method is killing the super soil ones in my room. You are going to love it. But you will be smoking more due to alot less work and being bored.

just put together a worm bin a few days ago. So in a month or 2 Ill have my own castings too. Wait till you start using aloe and barley teas and coconut water. Ohh man.

ahah... how long have you been experimenting with the no-till? I figured I would simply fill my container the same way I would normally fill my 7 gallons smart pot and go from there. (Supersoil at the bottom...)

I have not tried the compost yet, I am working on this...I started a kickass compost pile in my yard, I plan to go hunt in the bush for some good compost material this summer to make my pile bigger... between my veggies garden and the pot plants, I will have a hard time to keep up with the compost!! I dont want to buy it ...

My first no till batch is at day 30 in 12/12. Then my 2nd has a week or 2 left in veg.

Different shade of green. Perky constantly. Happier. BIGGER BUDS. They grew a lot taller after going into flower with same amount stretch.

The lower buds that get less light are almost same size as tops. Some lower are larger. The super soil ones get smaller the lower they are.

It seems its more about bacteria, fungi and enymes than npk. Especially enzyme teas and compost teas.

I filled my new container the same way I would fill a 7 gallons of SS. I hope my container last long enough to at least try a few runs hehe I think it will.... I didnt give it a good shape because I had already transplanted the shitty spacebomb and didnt want to hurt the roots. I transplanted the spacebomb coze she was not going to yield a lot at all anyway and wanted to make sure humidity in the room would stay ok after adding this huge amount of soil. It has. I kept the spacebomb going for headstash coze this one pheno smells the best. The other 1 in the room old enough to have a smell has a boring one.

It's only a matter of time before I built 2-4 small raised beds on wheels. No doubt in my mind that the ROLS will be the way to go for me :eyesmoke:
untitled-30.jpguntitled-31.jpg

SB X CHEMO ... I chopped 2 buds so far ... she is still maturing, 61 days now. I sent the camera to the repair shop at least I was able to take some pics :weed:

I loved soil beds soma style. But clean up after chop was a bitch. I had beds that were square 10 gal tubs. But with rols no clean up. Hmmmhmmm to many choices... Maybe make some fabric beds....

Soma has been all about dwc the last few years...... Traitor...lol

Thanks Hyroot, I looked at Soma's bed and I like them! I am starting to know exactly how I am going to build my beds next time I have a little extra cash.

For future reference for myself ... today is the day that I pollinated SB X MED (potentially quick flowering pheno, the one that smells like pussy :weed:) with a male that came from the exact same plant ...

so the genetic should be fairly stable.... I just hope the male was decent, it's hard to tell, 12/12 from seed and as soon as I saw the balls, I pulled it out, re-potted, and placed upstairs in the bathroom with very little daylight for about 2 weeks. There was no resin on the male whatsoever.

Its going to be a very low yielding strain, but my hopes are high on the quality. I love the pussy smell and I am confident that I will have the smell trait locked in since the mother (Medicine (Romulan x Island Sweet Skunk)) had the same smell as this plant I just pollinated.

blalblalbla ... in case you wanted to know that stuff.

The camera is fixed but my woman is going on holiday with it :( Anyway, I got a big update tonight, I took lots of pics. I have the old canon point and shoot that I will be using while she is gone.

So in the tent, we now have the old blue UFO running, I am attempting to reveg one of the SB X DR.G . The one that volunteered in the garden remember? the seed that fell from one of the DR.G and sprouted in the container?
untitled-13.jpguntitled-14.jpguntitled-16.jpguntitled-15.jpg
Anyway, I harvested her early, she was in the same container as the other SB X DR.G which was COVERED with nanners. lol. So I am trying to reveg this beauty of a specimen here... and if that was not enough, I pollinated the remaining buds with a (SB X MED) .... so a bit of an experiment on the side here. She had very few white hairs so I dont know that it will work plus it will be under 24hours not sure that it will make the seeds anyway! I am really hoping I can reveg her at least!!! SO SPECIAL! Great smell it's like this plant is the exact description of DR>G that I was looking for in the first place, closer to the description than the previous 2 I grew.

Some SB X CHEMO dried nugs
untitled-25.jpguntitled-24.jpguntitled-22.jpguntitled-23.jpg

This spacebomb has the smell I love so much, the same smell as the first spacebomb I grew! SO GOOOOD! Such a small yield too its ridiculous !!
untitled-27.jpguntitled-28.jpg

This SB X MED is from the batch that I called ''Quick Med'' coze the seeds came from a wicked tiny purple plant that smelled like pussy and matured super fast. So now I just pollinated her with a ''quick med'' SB X MED so I should be getting some pretty stable low yielding seeds haha. I LOVE THE SMELL of this baby.
untitled-18.jpguntitled-17.jpg

The other SB X CHEMO, I might have to reveg that one! I dont have a copy of her but I think I prefer the smell over the other SB X CHEMO that I harvested last week.
untitled-31.jpguntitled-20.jpguntitled-32.jpguntitled-21.jpg

Another spacebomb tucked in the corner ... again, she won't yield very much I hope she is the good smelling pheno!!
untitled-30.jpg

As you can see, ladybugs seems to like the raisins quite a bit, some of them like it so much they get addicted and die but overall, the ladybugs seems to like to have the pile of mashed raisin around, I got 2 bowls and there is always ladybugs in them, I keep filling the bowls with water... fun fun!
untitled-29.jpg

SB X HAOMA and some Cheese #1 in the background, I dont really like the look of the buds on the cheese1 but it smells nice... I am looking forward to see what the other 2 I have will do.
untitled-19.jpg

SB X HAOMA are all doing very well I really this cross, beautiful fruity smell as well.
\

Groupshot
untitled-26.jpg

I also pollinated a couple plants in room1, (with the SB X ''quick med'' pollen).... SB X MED AND SB X NYCD.

That's it for now, Happy Growing everyone,

What's the smell on that space bomb like?
Unreal!! hehe !! It's hard to describe, I am not very good at pinpointing the smells... I can tell you that the others I had that smelled like this one (2 or 3 of them and of course the mother of my spacebomb seeds...how do I call those by the way? F2? inline bred?)

After drying / curing, the jar smells like caramel, I am not a big fan of caramel normally but the jar smells like to die for caramel lol. The plant while growing just smell fkin sweet.... I have grown just enough spacebomb now to know that the smell I like is the common spacebomb smell, unless I had a special pheno when I started my little breeding project. Only one of them that is just about done doesnt have the ''spacebomb smell''.

The yield is so small though I think what I ll do is I ll find a keeper and put like 4 clones in the same container... trimming is slow too like trimming one oz of spacebomb will take you as long as trimming 2-3 oz of a normal strain only because all the buds are so small you dont have any buds that make the scale go up fast.

ReefBongwell

Well-Known Member
Mmm caramel sounds good to me :) I can imagine the smell you are describing from a plant :)

Damn sucks on the trimming... I thought there were some good yielding space bomb phenos or are you aiming for the smaller, more potent one? Is the small yield really worth it? It sounds like it'd have to be a lot better than the other stuff you're growing to be worth it, yaknow? :)
