The New River is actually one of the top ten oldest rivers in the world. It makes it path on granite thereby the erosion rate is astronomically less than others. It also flows South to North From NC to WV.Also has the greatest concentration of hybrid Tiger Muskies than any where IMO.
Also has catfish as big as I am. I have seen them during S.C.U.B.A training.

I'm hoping for a few days rain to get the river up a couple of feet+ to let fish run ive had one on the 13th of May so there's a realistic chance of a salmon if we could get 3-4 days of constant rain.
Eta... A few more :-)

I love it and a respect considering the trouble to acquire permits, permission and then a trophy where you are. I've a pint of spirits or ale for you here.

Those spades that size will break 20# line if you tighten your drag, man. They have to be chummed up with clams and usually bite right under the boat ,and then run like hell!
I've done rig jigging out of LA and insane mangrove casting with water snake babies for bait in FL. Crazy big stuff there. Crazy smart big stuff here. Only few massive fish. And few look like aquarium fish. LOL.

Got the boat out of storage last week and went out and did some crappie fishing. The water temps were still pretty low so was definitely a pre spawn deeper weeds bite. Got lots and got a few good ones in the mix. Was really nice to be out on the water again after a long winter A439F014-A91E-4F6A-BF06-BFFBDDFA27F8.jpegF698DEF9-CCCC-4EBF-9E8F-B79FDA002225.jpeg85FF5AE9-3560-4A82-95DE-B06A6E736AE0.jpeg
Saw a deer swimming across the lake, second one in as many years

I am very upset with myself right now.

I swear what I am going to tell you trully happened.

I was bank fishing at a local pond by my house. This pond has some massive bass, catfish and carp.

I was using a black and blue thunder cricket with a 4 inch green pumpkin fluke as a trailer.

I am fishing parallel to the bluff wall when I hit what I thought was a snag. Welp no..... not a snag. Next thing I know my drag is screaming, I'm screaming and the geese are screaming....

This fish is fucking huge. But it's not a bass.....

I hooked a huge carp. A big ass fucking carp ate my chatterbait..

Here is where I am pissed at myself.

I got it to the edge of the pond after letting it tire out. 15 lb fluorocarbon and my stupid as decides I can boat flip this.... Momentary lapse of sanity....

I lost the fish, my chatterbait, and well deserved pictures.

Worst of all is I know better.
