I think in Texas it's like our weaks and your specs . Closely related but not the same exact species . You have Southern Flounder and we have Summer Flounder aka Fluke . Fluke get bigger .

Rumor is it's going up to 20 this year . My favorite eating fish . The Pollack are really good to , they just don't freeze as well . Fresh they're way better than Cod .

Is that redfish in the second pic a kuna? Not sure what they are really called, but a tasty bottom fish. Got a bunch of those last season as well.

I've always just called them redfish , species name is Acadian Redfish .

They mix in with the Haddock early in the season good eating but don't let them stick you . Hurts worse than any other fish I've been stuck by .

Low budget?! My 3i cost me about 500 bucks 6years ago. I also have a 1man flip over clam. Those big shanties are for the lazy fisherman. I lug all my shit out set up and tear down cut my own holes, sometimes move multiple times a day. I run a buddy heater on a 5lber and I bring my jetboil on longer trips and get some dehydrated meals. That's true fishing. Renting a shanty and getting a ride out on a sled by the operator is just the lazy man's game of ice fishing. Good if you aren't into fishing and just getting out with the kids or something. But I'm hardcore. Balls deep or bust.
Smelt we catch in April when they run. You can ice fish them here too but super boring.
