subcool,i would like to add something that i have found to help me with the cure.

i use rubbermade bins large enough to hold the entire crop while the finish cure is happening.the reason for this is to monitor the humidity inside the container. over 65% get it out of there imediately and dry some more. the best cure is found at 60 -65 %,anything lower the bud will not cure correctly,and a harsher end product will result.
to monitor the humidity i use a humidistat found in the reptile section of the pet store.its cheap insurance for a great result every time.
i then seal in jars as you recommend.

please keep up the great work.
 
I would never store by buds in a tub make from toxic plastics and rubber left overs!
I do not suggest this method at all!

I couldnt find it on your webpage and the tude' only says "thc-high."

... huh? I opened this thread today cuz I saw that Sub had the most recent post, come to find out its cuz someone is arguing w him/giving him advice? So maybe I'm misreading this but still. No offence funkybud, maybe you should just ask questions till you get to like a hundred or so posts before you start doling out advice in one of the threads that belongs to IMO the best breeders in the country, just a thought. Peace- PS if Sub says something to you about how your doing things its cuz he wants to help, he's not out to be condecending or critical (at least in my experience). Now about curing, Mz Jill, Im sure the nuances of when you go in to jars is subtle, but since I started I was always told wait until the branch snaps, now I'm hearing thats too late, whats your target when transfering from line to jar? Would a day make a big difference? thx, chef.
 
Sub. I noticed somebody asked earlier in the thread how long to leave the jars open for once the curing process has started, And I am wondering the same thing. Should I just open and then close the jar after a minute, OR would it be best to leave it open for an hour or so? Please help
 
My understanding is longer periods of pen air and more frequently at first, since they're wet. I'm no expert, but I bring mine slowly down to 65% RH over two weeks. That includes the first week where I keep the humidity at 70% target and bud is hanging from little clotheslines. Then it's big mason jars where I may leave the top off at first, then only partially on. I take the bud out of the jar once a day until they hit 65%. Then the lid goes on and is opened once (maybe twice) a day for a quick air exchange. No vacuum yet, as you need the O2 right now. Once they get below 60% I pull a vacuum on them. They're still curing but much more slowly at that point. That's what I do, and like it a lot, but would like to tweak the process and am open to suggestions.
 
Approximately when will the curing sample start to smell like it was born to smell like. During flowering it had a strong chemical lemony smell. Now it has a musky herbal smell.

I had it drying on the stem for three days, the buds where fairly dry, stems were bendy. Its been in the jar for about a week (I should probably mention I have been burping 1-2 times a day), and currently I have them open to air out, why?, because I dont like the smell and I am thinking it needs to air out.

I have a cigar hygrometer inside, reads approximately 70%, from what i have read this is high. should be closer to 60-65. but they look and feel dry. Also how do I get that sticky gooey texture, patience?

mine is the same way when it was growing it was a strong fruity smell now its been drying for a couple days on hangers in the dark with fans running but not blowing directly on the bud it smells more green is this normal at first?
 
Has any one experimented with putting nitrogen gas into the jars to keep them dank/wet/fresh for long periods?
Im told it prevents any kind of breakdown of any kind and pushes 100% of the air out.
