The Collapse Thread; Post Evidence That 'The End Is Nigh'

It's well within our capabilities. It's a small, slow trickle of heat from the mantle, or it would have blown a long time ago.
We've gone close enough to do it already @ the TauTona mine in South Africa @ 2.4 mi. into the crust:

The mine is so deep that temperatures in the mine can rise to life-threatening levels. Air-conditioning equipment is used to cool the mine from 55 °C (131 °F) down to a more tolerable 28 °C (82 °F). The rock face temperature reaches 60 °C (140 °F).
Silly to use air conditioning when you could use heat exchangers to harvest the heat for "free" power and cool the mines at the same time.

But back to the OT....
Was talking w/ someone I know on the PNW coast and he was talking about his tsunami kits and asking some questions on things he hadn't included yet.

I was surprised he hadn't thought of an inflatable raft.
Seems silly, but if you survive a tsunami and want to go nearly anywhere, a boat of any type will be necessary for weeks/months.

It did blow a long time ago. Many times over the eons and has been getting more active every year for a decade. Ground has risen a bunch so they know something is going. I watched a series of shows about it on PBS a while back.

When Mt. St. Helens blew back in '80 my mom lived a mile from the US border just north of Bellingham, WA and woke up to a half inch of ash all over the place. She thought it had snowed in the middle of May. :)

Had the best lawn ever for the next few years. :D

Yosemite will make that look like a Boy Scouts camp fire.

It's been blowing up on a regular schedule, about every 630,000 years. Last eruption was about 630,000 years ago so it's due.

There has been a series of earthquakes this spring. Geologists assured the public it was not a precursor to an explosion but I'm pretty sure it's getting ready- sometime in the next 10-20,000 years lol

The research on the use of geothermal power stations to draw down the heat has been checked and verified. The plan, while expensive, would not only alleviate the threat to a great degree but would also pay for itself in terms of energy produced. It would not emit any more greenhouse gas than the region already does.

There's always the chance of a magnitude 10 earthquake on the west coast too. A lot of geologists are starting to thing that if the Pacific plate really lets go it can start a chain reaction that will run around the the Ring of Fire and cause up to a billion deaths.

It's been abnormally quiet the last decade or so in comparison to previous decades and they think it's hung up and building pressure like a huge spring that could make every other earthquake in recorded history look like nothing. There's never been a 10 and that would be a thoUsand times more destructive than an 8 or something like that.

Seismologist Susan Hough has suggested that 10 may represent a very approximate upper limit, as the effect if the largest known continuous belt of faults ruptured together (along the Pacific coast of the Americas).[32]
I grew up on the west coast but don't think I'd want to move back. Pretty far away from a chance of a natural disaster getting us here unless it's something global. Flat land with a mile of clay under us and way above any rivers that could flood us out. Tornadoes never get this far north but have been getting closer in recent years. Almost zero chance of earthquakes. No forests to burn us out so a grass fire is it and it's all tilled fields around us so not a lot to burn.

No ticks, no fleas on our pets, no dangerous snakes or large animals tho we saw a black bear about a mile north of here when on the way to town a couple years ago. Occasional moose or deer wanders through the yard so there's supper if the world goes to shit. Get out the trusty old .303 and put some meat on the table. We got a dugout full of water and I've got an old 500gal steel tank I could make a water distiller out of easy enough. Heat would be a bitch as we have no wood burning stove and we have no solar stuff either. Got lots of wood tho. I better stock up on some auto seeds as I'd have to start growing outside. :)

No large population center nearby to run amok and start raiding farms and everyone has guns out here. I should stock up on some ammo too. Just in case.

Don't much like living way up here in the middle of nowhere but it's starting to look not so bad. ;)

I think you'd need a whole lot of stuff to pull enough heat tho. Like the Yosemite thing you have the huge heat sink of the earth replacing the heat faster than you can pull it out tho there's likely ways it can be done.

My training is in chemistry and we didn't do a lot of thermodynamics nor am I an engineer so I don't know for sure.

Beyond my pay grade. :)

On Mars, the atmosphere will kill you and the soil is toxic. Not my idea of a day at the beach.

Notice I said nothing about not going. My point is that it will be a poor consolation prize for fucking up Mother Earth.

well if people would join together for the common good and vote republicans out, and not focus on their own narrow issues and put humanity first and not be so self centered and demanding. Vote Democrat for the good of us all.

I’ve been reading about the Iran oil tanker crisis in the news today, and it sure has that “escalation” feeling to it, now that Iran has threatened to capture a British Tanker..

But remember; America is NEVER the aggressor. You believe that, don't you? After all, the New York Times said so themselves, and they're never, ever wrong!

https://www.truthdig.com/articles/when-will-americans-realize-were-not-the-good-guys/

Good old America has been killing Innocents by the millions and fighting wars by the dozen, from bases numbering in the thousands, for decades now.

But we're never the aggressor.

Think about that the next time you see a headline in the mainstream media.

Right. Because Clinton and Obama both were fine, upstanding presidents who never did a thing wrong!

I understand your all consuming desire to believe in something but you really need to be more choosy about your idols, my friend.

Sanders or Gabbard, not that Americans are smart enough to vote for them.

You worship at the altar of Elon Musk and the establishment Democratic Party, neither of whom give one single solitary fuck about you or what you want.

Yet more proof of that fact:

I'm a Sanders supporter only because his politics are the closest to what I think needs to happen in this country today; a modern day FDR. That isn't cultism or idol worship, that is knowing my history. You might try it sometime.

Bernie a modern day FDR.

Now that's rich.

I would vote for Elon for president, before Bernie.....
