I was talking about the folite 304 led boards with 1oz copper with 286*174*1.6mm dimensions or the folux 288 on the same board size and thickness I believe. Which of these boards is the better board anyway? I am assuming the 288's thanks to lower voltage having more PSU options making them more flexible.

I figured mounted in some alu L frames I could run them at half power, 4 boards on a HLG240. Anyone with first hand experience? Of course I can always run fans on them and the area they will be in is ventilated, plus these things can take more heat than we allow them to get to be on the safe side. I mean its great to have them running at 35c but they are still just fine at 55c as far as I know.

Am I still being realistic or should I be looking at the LM301 boards for better thermals (is this even true? Its in the QB sales pitch), looking at mounting on 4mm alu plate instead of L frames, or go for 6 boards per HLG240. (or even go for fotop 800 instead, my least preferred option)

I am trying to be energy and heat efficient, while also being price efficient and at all times keeping safety in mind.

As for safety, if one of my 4 boards for whatever reason craps out, does that bring the other 3 boards up to 80 watts each, making 6 boards a safer option or is this safety concern negligible?

Edit: I'll likely go the HLG heatsink route (4mm 660*490 alu for about 20 eur excl VAT each) and run them 60w but am still curious about real world results without heatsink. Hope Rita is working Sunday :D
I have the 304+ boards from meijiu in my tent. I just ordered the single heatsinks from meijiu with my order.
Driven at 50% the heatsinks get hot enough thats its uncomfortable to hold you hand on them.

and if u wire them parallel thats exactly what will happen. its also how I have mine setup. I have 4 sets of 4 boards in parallel each set on its own driver. I wouldnt go any smaller than a 320w driver per set of 4 304s though.

I always try to run without heatsinks; easier, lighter, and as a beneficial side effect you tend to run the diodes so soft that you get good efficiency from literally any decent chip.

Would you prefer having boards along the 10' side or across it?

Do you have a budget?

One easy build would be 2x 3 fotop boards on alu angle running along the 10' side of the space, side by side. Each row of boards powered by a hlg480h-48A (or b for external dimming). Its probably the least work intensive build with good coverage and efficiency.

That would be about 160w per board, they can easily take that wattage with no heatsink. If you want cooler boards run a few more u-channels on it. Generally u-channel is cheaper than heatsinks, and you can usually get it in long length for very little.

Have had it between 18"-24". Watts ranging from 120-160-255-300 (single 800 board on HLG320 driver)

Going to flip this week (vegged for ~9 weeks), so I raised it to 24" (from 20ish) and upped the watts from 260 to 300 to give them some room for the initial stretch..

I have some issues that I think is either soil or nutrient related, would rather not jump the gun and assume that it's related to the light, as it seem to be working perfectly :-).

Has anyone used the company R2T?

They look pretty legit seeing they sell all sorts of diodes but about $100 more expensive than Meijui and Bava

Also do any of you guys see the actual difference between lm561c and the lm301b?

Edit: all I had to do was read -___-. Question still stands for the diodes though

Sorry, those are the ones i meant, 1x3 foot roughly. 3 of them in a long row on some alu profile, powered by a hlg480. And then times 2 to cover the whole 3 feet depth. Keep them 2 separate fixtures and you can dial in your perfect spread. Should give you more than enough light. 6 boards total, but the way i do diy i i allways make sure to have one spare. Parallel connections on 2 separate hlg480-48s. A if youre fine with onboard dimming, B if you want external or automated dimming.
Some 10 feet aluprofiles and your flying. Its a very easy build, done in less than a day if you have everything at hand

I've now added a Growgreen 384 board to the mix, ~56 watts, 28 watts per channel .
3000k 90cri and 5000k 80cri.
It's a Mk1 board so had to solder - no wagos.
4000 leds now lol

The Somango is starting to tower over everything now. Sez it has big skunk Korean in it... big something lol. I snapped the main cola over to even it out a bit. It was growing into the 30 watt burple that's why I moved the burple onto the Sensi's.

6 plants is too much.
5 is ok but 4 plants suits me and my area perfectly. I can move them around much easier, check for bugs n such and trim out the crap better. I like a bit of room.

With that much wattage, 480+320+320? Thats an oven of light. For a 4x4 id go for a hlg 480 and 3 fotop. When building the frame i would do it slightly bigger than the fotops so i i cou but some kind of strip on the short end side in case i wanted more light or spread. Or maybe some side light but like really soft, 20w per 312.
Hi, was busy with other things so just completed all the maths and about to order 2xfotop800@3000k + 2xfoled312@3500k and 2xfoled312@4000k in the end. The goal is to have flexibility as I'm thinking of having a smaller veg/clone area. In terms of drivers, as I want to run everything low power without heatsink - thinking HLG-480H-48A for the fotops + 2xHLG-240H-36A for the foleds (running in pair). How does this sound?

312 sounds overpowered @120w for vegg and especially seedling unless you have them very high.
All boards would need some heat sinking at those wattages. Especially the 312.
I count about 50w dissipation from 1 square foot of board, depending a bit on diode density. The 312 are barely half a square foot and should handle about 30w with no heatsinking, maybe a bit more if they have some framing alu.

If you wanna get these boards/drivers id suggest:
Get heatsinks for the 312s and use B-type drivers for dimming: you could dim them enough for seedlings. You can usually get the dimmer from meijiu aswell

Go for one more fotop board and run the 3 on the 480 at about 160w each and you should be fine with no heatsink amd have a bit extra spread.

Thanks- waiting to see what Meijiu offer- was thinking A type drivers because of the possibility to regulate voltage, if I'm not mistaken?
Also, I plan to run the 312 @60-70W (minimum wattage iirc).

Has anyone tried the 288plus boards from Meijiu? They are in stock, and taking orders, but I can't find any info on their site. Apparently they can driven harder than the 304plus?

The FOTOP Boards, at the moment. Great coverage, nice par readings, cheap and easy to set up. No heatsink required if running soft. With heatsink 370 watts
I really like the way they have the diodes nice n far apart
I can't complain about any of the boards really. All preform fantastic.
The 2 Channel Growgreen boards diodes are too tightly packed and need hefty heatsinks if running hard - they can handle 220 watts or more.
The Disco Boards look the part spectrum wise but are relatively new in the garden so I'll know over the next grow or two.
QB288s are good boards too but the hlg550 should have been made bigger for better spread.
My preference for led lights is, lots of them and run them soft.
