Forgotten voices of the second world war

Blurb

'I really didn't think I would make it. I didn't think there was any way that you could get across that beach and survive. I mean, I really thought it was my last day, but i had a job to do, and you know you're scared to death, but your friends - you don't want your friends to know you're afraid. You bluff, you act big and tough, but really, you're scared to death'

Short Extract

Sergeant-Major Martin McLane
2nd Battalion, Durham light infantry

"I went to find two rifle platoons, I passed a stretcher with lieutenant Greenwall on it. He was full of shrapnel from a Japanese plastic grenade, lying smoking a cigarette. He said 'Well, Sergeant-Major,' stroking his old man, 'they didnt hit that!' He was newly married."

I am a Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb fan.
I am just starting this trilogy. I love all of her books. When I have time and I am not on here, I read....I love getting lost in a good book.

I'm reading three books at the moment. one of which is for school.

The Hot Zone. this is the one for school...kinda makes me sick, this book...but it's alright

Forrest Gump. I've been meaning to read this book since I saw the movie and when i finally found it in the library, I thought that it would probably be the only chance I've got to really get my hands on it long enough to read it. All I can say is that the movie absolutely BUTCHERED the book. It has the same basic characters, but the story line in the book and movieare way out of tune. They're nothing like each other (except for Bubba...that's pretty much the only thing that is about the same in the book and movie). I like the book better so far. I'm almost done with it.

1984. I got it from a teacher last year as a gift. It's excellent. Soooo interesting. If you haven't read it already, get to it.

I've heard of this series. my ex read them and would always tell me about them. I also heard that they're making the books into movies? I don't know how many other vampire-romance series I could get mixed up with haha.

Douglas Adams is my favorite author of all times and the latest movie is my favorite movie, really I mean, when I am having a bad day, I skip to my favorite parts and it cheers me up. Sad he died so young.

Well color me surprised. I didn't think we had many readers here. I love to read....well sorta, I mostly listen to audiobooks because I am dyslexic and they are a lot easier for me. Not to mention the fact that I can "read" them while I drive, work and even toss them on my ipod and go mow.

I do 2 or 3 books at a time and depending on the size and how much they interest me can have them done within a week. I am a huge non-fiction fan and will read about pretty much anything. I am almost done with 2 right now, on called "McMafia" and the other called "America's Secret War". I would highly recommend them to nerds like myself. Next on the list is Vincent Bugliosi's "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder". I started it about a month back and the first part was mostly all Bush bashing, I wanted some substance, I mean how a real prosecutor would try the man.

Has anyone here not read lord of the rings?

I get through the first twenty pages of the first book and have to put it away..

For my next book i'm gonna be reading "Clive Barkers Books of blood" anyone read that?

Johnnyorganic, i take it you're a big history person. I may have to get hold of a copy of that book. I'm yet to read Mein Kampf, but am told it's good.

Any Views on it? :)

Have not tackled that one yet. It's on my list.

From what I understand, Hitler spelled out just about everything he planned to do in that book.

i've got a lot of book on serial killers, Cannibals, i'm not sure what it is about reading about them, they are very fascinating.

That was one of the rare instances where I thought the movie was better than the book.
