Could you make this carbon filter, and just place it in a corner of your grow box would it still work, if it has to be on a fan is it either the intake or outake?

Someone reply please its urgent
Just putting the carbon filter in it won't really do a heck of a lot, put it on your exhaust, have the fan suck it through the filter, don't push it thru.

outtake...I think you want the air to pull in from the tent/whatever near the plants room and out through the filter to again the room/tent/whatever...HTH

I'm not able to cut an exhaust hole in my closet (renting and planning on moving soon).
If I were to connect the filter to a fan and just have it hanging in my grow room, circulating the air. would it still control the odor?

no. the air needs to travel through the filter for it to be effective. As the air moves over the filter, the carbon cleans it of the delicious, but ultimately conspicuous stink. If you don't have an exhaust on your grow room, I would suggest getting a tent or something. Circulating the air is pretty important.

In the meantime, you can probably get a smaller ozone generator to clean the air outside of that room.

OfficeMax.com has a Jumbo mesh cup that's 4-5/16" Dia. x 5-5/16" H and a standard one that's 3-9/16" Dia. x 3-15/16" H. Just search for "Mesh Pencil Cup", no quotes.

OK so I saw this and it reminded me of like a k&n air filter. Just wondering, is there any way one of those would work?

I have been eying the truck air filters at Autozone, pepboys, etc... they have filters that look like a carbon filter. some of them you could easily drill out a couple of rivets, and add charcoal to it. the filters run between 13 and 30 bucks, but would do the job.

Wouldn't happen to have a link for that would you? Just typing in Filter at Pep boys is akin to shooting myself in the face.

similar to this i spose, but youd really have to go look to find the perfect one

yeah its a bitch finding one online, parts stores think they are being so helpful asking for vehicle make and shit. well my grow room doesnt have a make, or model.

Fram has gone to a molded rubber, that will make taking it apart a real pain, so youd have to find one that will be easier to disassemble.

so does it matter if you install homemade filter b4 or after a inline fan... i know some carbon filters from the store are only meant to have air sucked thru and not blown thru. any thoughts?

I would also like some info on this, I have heard back-pressure on the fans will shorten their life span. I don't know how that specifically applies here, I suppose it means that you need enough surface area within the carbon filter to accommodate the CFM that the fan is pushing/pulling, I just don't know whether pushing/pulling makes a difference. In my setup an internal scrubber would be better for space reasons, however I have not seen anyone with such a setup except big grow rooms. I also need a way to calculate the size of filter needed in a DIY rig based on my fans exhaust speed of roughly 40 CFM. I could calculate it based on larger commercial setups and scale it down, but I haven't tried the math and have no idea if its a linear calculation.

This is the coolest DIY scrubber idea I have seen so far. I saw another one that was larger and done with a bucket, some screen and 4" ducting, but that would be for a larger setup.
