You need to compost organic material for it to be useful.
Basically microbes break down the complex waste into usable plant food.
You can use diluted urine in water. Though the nutrients take a few days to become available post microbes in normal soil.

I use diluted urine(my own) for fertilizer. Nothing wrong with that. My plants thrive!

I wouldn't suggest human excrement unless the particular human is a vegan. The best is from grazers(like cow manure).
