Tap water

I wanted to know if i can replace my reservoirs with tap instead of RO waster. I am about to switch to bloom. I have to change my DWC into a RDWC because of temp issues in the reservoir first though. This means another 3-4 gallons of OR water from the store. My tap water is at 70ppm. I think it was a lot more the last place i lived. My question is this; Can i use regular tap water instead of RO? If i do should i just adjust the ppm's to compensate for the 70ppm's already in it?

I use tap water. I have chloramine and I still use it.

if your municipality uses chlorine, just let is sit out for a while and it will dissipate. If they use chloramine it will not dissipate.

There are drops that you can get at the pet store that will remove chloramine but I do not know how safe it is for consumables

i would not worry about the ppms just addd nutes as normal

edit: found this on line

Effects of chloramines concentration in nutrient solution and exposure time on plant growth in hydroponically cultured lettuce Site shows that damage ocurred at 180 ppm which is 80 times more than you have in your water supply.

Thanks Commander. This is going to save me money and time. I was about to go to the store today and buy 16+ gallons of RO water for the week. Pain in the ass. I didn't think 70ppm was that bad. I have read other post where people had a ppm of 200+ in their tap water. I did notice it takes a lot of ph down to bring the tap water ph down to 5.9. With the RO water all it took was a few drops. Oh well. Beats lugging gallons of water home from the store like some government mule.

You'll prob actually run into less problems as far as deficiencies go, as the RO'd water is completely stripped of all micros found in tap water.

70ppm is actually better than average water. You should be fine.

Look into small boy filters. I've grown on tap with and without and it really helps quality.

You can also bubble your res with a couple air stones 24 hours prior to use. It will have most of the chemicals evaporated.
