Taking pics w/ gps-enabled cellphone..exif data=BAD NEWS!

Listen up!!
Everybody that uploads pics here on the farm, or any cannabis site, from a GPS-enabled cellphone...BETTER READ THIS!!!

If you have a cellphone that has a camera, and GPS...you MUST turn the GPS OFF before shooting pics of anything cannabis-related. I have an iphone and it has the option to turn the gps off, but I'm not sure about other brands having that option...I would imagine they do. But if not, then you simply CAN NOT use your phone for taking canna-related pics...EVER! Here is why I'm posting this....
A few weeks ago I came across this website, http://regex.info/exif.cgi. The website is self-explanitory...it allows you to view exif data from digital photographs. I used it on some pics I shot on my phone(nothing canna-related)...it was kinda cool to see where exactly I was when I took the photo. But I also realized how that could totally fuck an unknowing grower>>>fast foreward to today....
I was going thru a thread and somebody posted a pic that looked to me like a pic from a cell phone cam, quality-wise...it was of a bud, and I thought "hmm, let me just check it out on that exif website for the hell of it and see if he is cool"....bad news..looked like it was pointing right to the guy's house! And he is not in a pot-friendly state, trust me. Scary shit!!! I shot him a pm to warn him, and to delete EVERY pic he uploaded from his cell..and to turn off the gps if possible.
I suggest you guys that have gps enabled phones to do the same....this exif shit makes things so much easier for leo and narcs...Be smart, and be safe.

thanks to jimmynitz@the farm for the info

Hi ecsd, this is probably the most important post I've seen in a VERY long time in R.I.U.! Def +rep for YOU.
LOL, thank god I only use my trusty little Vivatar. You have most likely SAVED a whole bunch of growers collective asses with this information. Good luck & good grow.......BB

I wanted to give this very important post a "Bump".
And ask why this wouldn't make a most valuable sticky?
I have no idea who the "Boss of the Stickies" is, or how you can make a nomination, or suggestion, or......?
Wishing all, Good luck & good grow.......BBbongsmilie

Most image editing software will allow you to strip all exif data from your pictures. Irfanview will, and it's free.

No worries here.. Tested many times as this is Concept is widely discussed.

This practice should be as common as ensuring there's nothing in the pics you upload (Wherever) that contain any items that can trace back to you. (I.e. taking a picture of your plant in your home with your Degree hanging up in the back).

There are no secrets anymore. What you do online (For the majority of us) can be fully tracked.

the fbi has had the ability to see through your cellphone camera and listen through the microphone for a few years. even if its off, the only way to not allow it is to remove your battery. ive seen it on the news a while ago and im sure their is a youtube clip... hold on ill find it...
