switching to hempy. K.I.S.S. question

I'm skeptical about one-size-fits-all solutions.
I use this formula and it works for the most part, but it is strain dependent. I couldn't get my white widow near 7g per gallon without toasting her. This formula is based on the Lucas formula everyones heard of at least once. Spent the better part of 2 years using nothing but Maxibloom and calmag with pretty respectable results. I'm sure I could have had a slight increase in yields had I used a bloom booster, but i'm just a lazy and incredibly cheap grower. I can mix 5 gallons of this crap up in less than 5 minutes and not have to worry about ppm or ph levels at all. Even at half strength the pH stays stable at 5.7 every time with a base tap of 7.0. Maxibloom meets all my expectations of simplicity.

For what it's worth I slowly step my plants up in strength based on 7g/gallon being full strength. I've read where some people start out at 7g/gallon as soon as early veg. Just never worked for me and ended up with nute burn.

My 2 cents.

Has anybody used and had good results with Botanicare Kind nutes in an all perlite hempy bucket?

So after switching from dwc to soil i decided to back down the hydro route. Just easier and better results.
Anyways, im going the maxibloom route as my base nute whole grow. I also picked up some dynagro protekt. This will be used in a perlite hempy bucket by the way.

I was just curious if there is anything else thats really, necessary ? I thought about some rapid start for extra root growth but other than i havent really foujd anything id need to add.

Ay opinions, or will the girls be happy with maxibloom and protekt?

  • RM,

I am using the Lucas recommendation for Maxibloom, that is 7 grams per gallon. I add nothing else.

I posted this in the Hempy forum on 2/7/14. I have since gone to 12/12 on 2/15/14 and the plants are doing very well. Will be feeding again tomorrow evening. so will take pics at that point. I have trimmed some fan leaves last feeding on the 16th, that is all I will do till day 20 of flower and I will do final trim. I feed every 48 to 60 hours but have gone as much as three plus days with no ill effects.

    From 2/7/14
I am almost two months into this mainlined training session.

These have been in 3.5 gallon Hempy's since early January, transplanted from Hempy cups that were started early December.

    1 - Ice @ 8 shoots
1 - Ice @ 6 shoots, broke one shoot and the second was totally out growing the rest so I cut it back.
    1 - White Widow @ 14 shoots, I miscut early in training.

All are doing well, now just trimming undergrowth and ready to put the ring on and should be going to 12/12 in just a couple of week if not less.

It picked up too much moisture.

If you have a scale the just use an ice pick and get pieces of MB and weigh them out to 7 grams per gallon, for Hempy.

I would take one cup of water per 7 grams, heat the water to hot then add the MB and dissolve it before adding it to colder water. Don't put it in the water to heat it, just add to hot water and stir.

Oh and keep it in an air tight bag.

  • Been a week since last update. What ever was eating on my Ice was not found but also see no further damage. I can see that fker laying on his back LHAO, feeling super powers.

All is fine, feeding every two plus days, going to let them dry a bit more as i am seeing more gnats then I like. Being exposed Hempy them little fuckers love feeding on any algae and the larva feed on the roots, so going to dry them out some and put a small bowl of vinegar in the cabinet.

Temps starting to warm a bit here so my cabinet temps have gone up some. Mid 60's at night 78 to 82 during the day. RH 49 to 57%.

Went 12/12 on 2/15/14, starting to see the stretch and big fan/sun leaves. I only feed/water when I check the drain at the base of the bucket and it is totally dry. The bucket holds 10 cups of liquid before it begins to exit the overflow hole, so they are beginning to suck down the nutes/water.

I may cut some of the fan leaves off to expose the inner plant to more light. I will do a trim at 20 days, mainly any thing under the ring.

Great lookin' plants gr. I've never been able to fully commit to mainlining. I got a thing about bushy plants. I'll be hanging around to see the multi-headed girls grow up.

Hey bud, I would love to do an outdoor big plant grow but not where I live, LOL

I grown in a 6.5 sq foot cabinet, 28x34x72 inches, so controlling my plants is necessary. Mainline is just one method and I am giving it a run for a bit. A three plant SCROG may be in my future, would have to change growing methods or figure out how to do Hempy's to a single drain point. I do like my Hempy's.

Thanks for the comments, will post pics regularly.

I appreciate the responses everyone. Since this thread i have started my grow. The link above will take you to it. Theres not much to see yet as the plants are only 32 days old from sprout. But so far they have been respondi mg well to the kiss method.

Heres a list of the nutes ive been using and how much

:maxibloom @ 7g per gallon
:roots excelerator @ 1ml per gallon
:dyna grow protekt @ 1/2 to 1 tsp per gallon

This brings my ppm to around 840. And the ph is right at 6.1 - 6.2

Ricky,

6.1 to 6.2 is in the right range, I started with that but have gone to a 5.8 to 6.0. I believe I get better uptake of the nute solution.

Looking at your plants in your journal I think you can drop the root product, I am not sure what the Protec is, but must be for root disease. What are you temps like?

I think your plants look just great and good luck on your grow.

Temps are fine @72-78 f.
Dyna-gro Protekt is basically just silica. Its supposed to increase strength of branches and improve the plants ability to endure stressful conditions. The roots excel will be put away after a week or two. Im transplanting today and would like to use it until the plants fill out a bit more in the bigger buckets.
But i appreciate the kind words. So far im impressed with the hempy.

  • Been a few days since last update w/pics.

All is well, just in the wait and see mode. They are drinking 8 cups of H20 + nutes every two days.

Getting fragrant and frosty. I really waited to late on switching to 12/12, but live and learn. I though I waited to to short of time for my last grow. LOL
