Stubborn clones...advice needed!

Hey folks, I will quickly explain what i done...maybe some of you can give me some pointers?

Ok, my ak47 plantes are in week 4 of veg so we decided to top half and lollipop the other half.

I cut the clones long, left them in water until i had finished.

I pre soaked peat pellets in ph'd water (friend suggested them...i had used soil before...which worked btw)

I cleaned up the cutting under water to prevent air bubbles

Used Clonex rooting gel (plant was dipped in it for like 20 secs)

Straight into peat pellet, then under humidity dome for a week

Under two 30w cfls (blue spectrum/1500 lumens each)

Temps 70-80
Humidity 50-70

After 6 days, I moved them into my big tent under my 400w MH, room temps and humidity is similar (so good to grow in winter instead of summer here)


Now, these clones and been going for a week...still no roots. Any ideas? They are loosing there green colour, but still look ok...

I have everything for a bubbler/cloner;
air stones & air pump
neoprene collars
net baskets

Would it be worth while trying to re-root then in there? Or would it most likely kill them?

Any advice or suggestions would be awesome! Thanks folks :)

Have you ever used that exact method with good results? The only thing I would change is using rockwool rather then peat pellets. You don't want any nutrients when you clone and I'm sure the pellets have some.
I don't like the idea of bubble cloners because you then have to transplant the bare roots into your medium and you can't do that without destroying some of the microscopic root hairs that do all the work.
You can try to root them again but I would use rockwool this time.

My best guess is to much light

clones want indirect blue (6500K) light (I shade mine with one sheet of printer copy paper)

get them away from the 400 watter and do not have the cfls directly above them

here is why, what you are seeing happen is that the plants (clones) see the light and are trying to grow, this is indicated by the yellowing, they are pulling nutes out of the leaves.

You want them to spend energy on making roots, hence indirect light.

The other factor is too much moister, you want them to have to look for water which makes them make roots, if medium is soaked they don't have to look for water

no, never tried this method...just a friend suggested pellets and I thought they sounded good. i bought fucking 60 of them...god dammit haha! Yeah, in regards to the bubble cloner...I read about the micro hairs on the roots...was hoping it would damage them too much, but everbody that uses those bubblers then puts them into aero/dwc. Thanks for your opinion, i appreciate you doing so.

shit, i thought it was too little light...you think 3000 lumens is enough? thats what the two cfls give out. They (cfls) are the correct specrum (kevlins) i made sure. i guess that makes sense about the letting the pellets dry out a little and make the clone look for water...tbh i left them a little wet to stop them drying out.

So you think its yellowing because the clones are actually growing roots now?

should i leave them in with the MH 400w and put them at hte side of the tent? not under the light directly or back in with the cfls?

that's way to much , you can root a clone under 1 13w CFL , 6500K , 800 lumes for a tray of 73 clones

NO the yellowing is because the plants are trying to grow , not the roots

I currently have clones in peat pots in a heated garden thingy (jiffypot brand from lowes) I have a single sheet of white paper on the top of it to shade the light (light gets thru but its a dull light) there are 2 23 watt cfls above them and the little babies love it, I know because THEY ARE NOT BENDING TOWARD THE LIGHT

the plants will always tell you what they want, when they want it. It is up to us to learn to listen :bigjoint:

Be patient grasshopper. Some root faster than others. Leave them alone and let them do their thing. I agree that you have them under too much light. Fluorescents are the best for rooting clones. ;-)

just been veggin a clone for a week....giving it ample water and too much light. Now it is in my veggin room on top of my HPS for warmth to dry out the soil and it gets indirect light off the walls. Thanks for the recommendations, first time cloning. Peace.
