Stretchy stem or normal growth?

Is this considered a "stretchy stem" or is this average growth? Does this need to be replanted up to the cotyledon leaves to support later growth?IMG_0124.jpg

I'd fill the pot the rest of the way and make a little mound around it...looks healthy though, some just have a longer base

40watt t12 x2. One "grow" bulb, one 4000k. I've kept the light at no more than 6" since they've sprouted. It's currently 3" away.

i always end up with some stretching that early. i just repot with most of the main stem burried.

It's stretched more then I'd be comfortable with. The danger is that if the soil gets dry the stem won't be able to support the leaves and the plant bends over. If that happens and isn't caught soon enough it can kill the plant. The stem is to fragile to tie a stick to it, so burying would be your safest option. The stretching is always lighting related. Sometimes it's because it was pre-germinated and didn't get light quick enough and other times it's because the lighting is set to far away.

The way I've eliminated this from happening is by not pre-germinating and instead by sowing into a small container filled with soil and leaving the lighting on 24hr. It waste a bit of electricity since the plant doesn't need the light on until it sprouts above the soil, but I found by leaving the light on the seedling gets lighting the very moment it needs it.

Noted. Will try a different approach the next time. I pre-germed, planted in small pots and sprouted in a terrarium under a small lamp for heat control. Once they opened I moved them under the t12's. There would lie the gap between ideal lighting and soil break. Thanks.

You may want to get a bulb in the 5000k to 6500k spectrum, that would most likely help along with moving it closer to the plant.
EDIT: NM, 3" is close enough.
I tried vegging mine with 5000k AND 2700k after reading, and my plant seemed to really like it.
