stopping the plant from getting taller

Ok so i need my plants to be no more than 6 or 7 feet tall for where i have them, and they a sativa strain so im pretty sure they will get bigger than that

I know topping them off will get them shorter but if they get to a certain height can i just keep clipping it back at that point? or will it harm the plant???

opinions? :)

The general rule of thumb is the less stress the better. If you can do so, try timing it right where you switch them to flower at about 4 feet all and they will continue up to about 6-7 feet before their growth spurt ceases around week 3 of flowering. If they get a bit tall during that time you can always bend them over.

Most sativa will triple in size when u start flowering. Good strong light and the method called scrog will help with height issues

^Third that. If they get taller than you like, tie a string to the top, pull it over to the side, and tie it to a rock or something, to keep it bent over. It won't hurt it at all, even if it's into flowering, and is a much better option than topping, at that stage.

tie them down
thanks this might just be the answer i needed :), that way i wont have to stress out my plants and they will still get as much bud as a full grown sativa plant haha

is there any specific way to do this to not hurt them or do i just do what they said below and simply tie down the top?

they are outdoors, that may be a bit hard to do =P

tie them down
also, one more thing xD

every once in a while i see people say if you have too many colas (which ur supposed to get alot according to all the stuff i have seen while researching about tying down), that the buds will be less potent, were these false remarks or is that true?

Well, it is true that the more buds are dispersed on the plant, in terms of height, (i.e instead of one cola that's highest on the plant, multiple colas on equal height), each cola will be smaller (in weight and size), but they say that for some or most strains, the sum of all these colas will be larger than the single big cola. so you see what I'm saying.

alas, I do not have the experience to confirm or deny this theory, but it is quite acceptable in the growing world I believe, and this is why people scrog (in a scrog you have all the plant on an even, unified height canopy). I also don't know how this affects potency, but I would think it doesn't affect it much. Also, topping the plant for instance would get you the same results (multiple colas instead of one), and is good practice even if you do use LST or scrog. read some about these techniques.

as for a way to do it, well, just tying down the top would surely work. If you want maximum control on your plant, you can scrog it, but outdoor plants usually don't need such handling. I understand your main concern is security, and normally this is the first and ultimate priority when growing, all the rest comes afterwards. Keep in mind that with a very large plant you may need to work often on managing its height. If you tie its top down one day, you may find on the next that it just curled upwards from that point and continue to grow up, that's what plants do.

anyways, with plants of good genes growing in the ground with full on sunlight, assuming they are healthy, I don't think you should be concerned about yield or potency at all :)

so keep it secret, keep it safe! good luck
