"Former Trump White House senior advisor and Trump campaign manager Steve Bannon has been indicted by a federal grand jury, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued. Three weeks ago the House of Representatives in a bipartisan vote referred Bannon to the DOJ, citing criminal contempt of Congress. "

Bye bye Steve!
This is a weed forum, please be considerate and take the politics elsewhere

What is wrong with charging him for a criminal action that he indisputably is doing?
If you're going to take a bite make it a big one.

I don't understand your argument. "It can take years to process." Did Bannon not do the crime?
Having done the crime or not does not speed things up. He's 67 years old with a dead liver. They can stall for a long time just with normal legal tactics and then they'll likely use some "poor health" reason to delay things even longer. He's got plenty of supporters that will donate to pay for a fancy legal team.

These are not good reasons for letting a criminal walk.

Criminals walk every day. And bannon defied the subpoena just to give people the finger. All he had to do was show up and refuse to answer the questions. To go to a Grand Jury over a misdemeanor charge that would be a slap on the wrist and a possible fine is pretty ridiculous. Just wait until the Republicans are back in power and they will be. When that happens there will be plenty of Democrats defying subpoena's as well. It's going to be a bunch of tit for tat.

Go after bannon for something that will send him to prison like tax evasion or wire fraud for all the money he's fraudulently raised and spent like a drunken sailor.

All this nothing burger for defying a subpoena is doing is rallying supporters that are convinced it's nothing but a witch hunt. If you want to take a bite make sure it's worth chewing and not just a nibble that still leave you hungry.

So if Obama defies a congressional subpoena after the Republicans take control of Congress do you want him thrown in jail as well?

There's also a thing called due process and bannon has his right to a day in court whenever that may be.

I disagree with most of this. But I heartily agree with the last paragraph. I want everyone of the suspected malefactors to have their days in court. Nothing else than convictions tightly adhering to codified process will have as much healing and unifying effect on us spectators. And those who are indicted but innocent, I want them passed through the same system the same way, and vindicated.

Congress referred the charges to the DOJ and it's now up to them. If there were no penalty for refusing to give testimony under oath in front of the commission when there is a lawful reason to compel that testimony, then the investigatory powers of Congress to fulfill their duties would be neutered.

You do understand that the "nothing burger" was actually something that Trump only avoided because he was Prez at the time? In the grand scheme of things, he may or may not stand for the crimes the Muellar Commission found Trump had committed. In this context, nothing burgers are wishful thinking of the criminal that he won't be caught and punished.

This doesn't sound at all trivial:

The criminal offense of contempt of Congress sets the penalty at not less than one month nor more than twelve months in jail and a fine of not more than $100,000 or less than $100. Not unless you think a month in prison is nothing.

He'll just pay the fine with the cash he stole with his border wall scam for which Trump had to pardon him and the group of people Bannon & Trump steal from will cheer him on.

The tit for tat started with the Republicans who were trying like hell to impeach Clinton prior to the 2016 election for years. And the Democrats sat through all those stupid as shit hearings and followed the law even though the now shown to be insurrectionist, Russian linked Republicans had tried to force them into a corner of not listening to subpeona's and breaking congressional norms (like McConnell did when he refused to sign off on a bi partisan response to Russian attacking our democracy in 2016 when it became known).

The thing is that there is no 'both sides' to this lawlessness when it comes to the 2 major political parties in our nation. And it is shown when the Republicans do stupid shit like try to indict McCabe for doing his job and the grand jury looks at the evidence and laughs Trump's lawyers out of the room.

Bannon already had his 'right to a day in court' and got found guilty and was pardoned by Trump (because again lawlessness Republican morality). Pretending like he shouldn't be held accountable for other ways he has tried to scam/ aid in the attack on our nation is not something I agree with.

And pretending like somehow this is going to blow back on the Democrats is just full on bullshit.

When the Republicans take back control of the House the witch hunt that jim jordan and his ilk are going to go on will be bullshit but it will be very real. It's not what I want to see happen but I'm realistic about the way things are and how they're likely to turn out.

Of course if he is around and they take back congress they will. It already happened. Understanding this has nothing to do with being 'realistic', it is just what the Republicans do because they have no agenda that is not helping the mega wealthy from having to pay any taxes. This is just Tea Party bullshit all over again.

Pretending like anything that the Democrats do has anything to do with the bad faith that it takes to be in the Republican party today is just brainwashed bullshit. Just like pretending like it matters outside of just more reason to make sure that the Republicans don't get back keys to the congress/white house until they step up and get some real candidates that are actually looking to do something to help all of America.

Eric Chauvin committed a crime in broad daylight for all to see. It was difficult to believe he would be convicted but prosecutors saw enough evidence to justify a trial. To say that Chauvin should not be put on trial because police are never convicted for a murder they commit while on duty would have been cynical and, it turned out, wrong.
