Starting Plant Indoors

Should every plant (except root plants such as radishes and onions) be started inside first? If so, what's the light schedule that should be used? Would 12/12 be good enough? Is 600w MH too strong for non-MJ seedlings?

Tomatoes, eggplant, and peppers should be started indoors about eight weeks before mid may for northern climates. 12/12 works great for all of these, but 18/6 or 24 is great as well. Don't put your light to close to young seedlings, I do mine off to the side in my bud room and they thrive. they will do well in the window especially if you can supplement with 6500k floro lighting. In colder climate not a bad idea to do the same with watermelons and cantolopes but they don't transplant as well. I would not waste time and space starting anything else indoors. oh tobacco plants need to be started indoor as well. When you put your tomatoes in the ground tear off all lower nodes and clone them then take your transplant and bury it up to its neck with only the top node above ground, the plant will produce roots along the buried stem and it will take off. If you do it like this your gonna want to make your own trelises because the store bought ones are just too small and flimsy. good luck.
