Something To Think & Explain

Lots of growers now-a-days like to lolli-pop and prune branchs to exspose bud sites. But in the occurance of a deficency couldn't those lollipopped branches serve as back-up nutrients? If so this makes it lollipopping more unefficent. Please back-up your answers with fact.

I think people shy'ed away because of your demand for "facts", something hard to come by here, LOL. Branches and leaves are not a storehouse for nutrients. The leaves collect the energy from light through photosynthesis and store that energy as complex sugars; that is where it's stored; Google it if you want backup. The reason we lollipop plants is to increase airflow to the lower zone, to eliminate the plant putting it's resources into "popcorn" bud in the extremities, to focus the light onto one ginormous cola rather than trying to penetrate deep into the canopy for the little popcorn buds. It also helps with maintenance when you don't have all those branches on the bottom.

Thanks for the post. Sorry for my crazy hungry for truth =/. Ok lets explain why I brought up this matter. I faced a Mg deficent, and I happen to noticed it ate it way to from Bottom to Top. And whenever i pruned a Mg deficient leaf, it seemed to immediately move to the next leaf set. However when I didnt prune the deficient leaf, the deficency waited until the deficient leaf was dead before moving on. If you see where i'm going, you'll understand I trying to preserve foilage.

that is why I always leave a few lower branches - so I can catch a problem before it becomes a crisis - good thinking

Lollipopping, is for people who can't resist fucking with their plants, IMO. Sometimes I wonder if the big draw, is so that when they show their non-growing buddies that big bud at the end of the grow, they can say "Yep, I lollipopped that motherfucker, and just look how awesome it is", while claiming that it's a training method used by professionals, for more yield, bla, bla, bla....when in fact, I see none of the top guys using it. Yeah, looks purty, but isn't much more than that, if ya ask me.lol

Dana May (aka "Professor Marijuana on here) uses it and he was named by High Times Magazine as one of the top 5 growers in the world.

You mean that guy with those tiny buds in his avatar?lol

J/K, I was talking about lollipopping, in more of an extreme fashion, moreso than just removing a few sets of lower branches. I do that myself. I was more referring to those I see that actually look like lollipops, with excessive chopping. I just wanted to start some shit, actually, because I know there's no real strict definition of "lollipopping", and was sure I'd be pissing some people off.lol It's the more extreme cases, that I find ridiculous.

havent yet seen a benefit (for me) with lollipopping.

havent got high humidity, so dont need no improved airflow.
i dont see the top buds getting bigger, cutting off the small popcorn (which smokes fine :))
and yes, plants do store nutrients in leaves, so i Really dont see the point (for me)

btw

ive never seen anyone Explain the benefits of doing that stuff (not really to the extent to make it make sense and something id desire to do)

I don't consider pruning the bottom 1/3 of the plant true lollipopping. That's the way the Professor does it. ...just sayin
