not sure if its a hydrolic leak.

not sure if any can help me, or if any1 has had the same problem with their focus b4.

i have a 02 focus 1.6 zetec.

i had a new clutch about 5 months ago. recently ive been having to top up my dot 4 brake and clutch fluid up quite alot. id say ive filled it up 2 or 3 times since my new clutch.

before i had the new clutch fitted i still had to top up the fluid more than i should.

the warning light on the dash seems to come on when i stretch my gear ratio out. so if im putting my foot down and get high revs and then change gear it seems to use alot of fluid there, and also when i brake, not harshly but quite hard.

also ive noticed that when i come off the motorway coming home from work and i come to change down a gear, the clutch seems stiffer than normal.

any1 have any ideas as to what this is? and if there is a problem, how much does any1 think it will cost to repair?

cheers

can you get under the car?

it depends on how dirty your willin to get i guess. if you look at the resivoir(sp) follow the little green steel line that runs off of the master cylinder.

If your in the UK i assume your steering wheel is left hand? if it is follow the green line that runs from the resovoir(sp) over across the top of your transmission and bolts on or runs into a rubber boot. if theres a leak in it, replace it. if theres not...your not squirtin any out so you may need a new master/slave cylinder.

im in the UK yeah. driving side is on the right hand side.

ive had a look under the car but cant see anything or any signs of leaks.

i will have to see if i can follow that cable. i have a haynes manual so hopefully it will explain in there.

thanks

If you don't see a leak under the vehicle, look for a leak where the clutch piston goes through the firewall in front of the pedal. Unless you smell it burning that fecking fluid has to be going somewhere.

stays relevant.
heh... when god blessed me with growing skills, he forgot to throw in a few masculine traits like the ability to work on cars.

there has to be a fluid leak in the tranny or where it connects to the engine. check under the car. if you dont see a fluid stain, go drive around a bit and park the car in the same spot for awhile.

yeah has to be going somewhere. now that u mention the pedal going through the bulkhead, my (drivers side) carpet mat has been wet/damp for as long as i can remember. the pedal is always wet/wetter than my throttle. i think that could be it. leaking near the pedals. thanks for ur input

ha, i am no expert but i would rather try and fix things myself rather than take it to the dealer who will charge something stupid just to 'look' at it and then more costs on top of that.

i never knew how to grow but i learnt the basics in about 4 weeks.

...its amazing when u realise u still have the ability to amaze yourself.

is the clutch slipping at all??
nope, it was.... thats why i had a new clutch fitted about 5 months ago.

it is still under warranty though so i might try and say it was there fault its leaking and see if i can get em to fix it

sounds like the master or slave cylinder is leaking, they aren't too costly but getting them installed might run you a little.

there is a rubber hose that goes to the slave cylinder on the bellhousing.. thats usually the first place to look for a leak.....

hate to tell you this, but it's a ford which means it's a piece of crap. get rid of it before the warranty is up, or you'll be sorry.

actually no. Fords are very well built. your prob thinking of the older cars, which were a piece of shit. Fords these days have some very strong cars and reliable.

you'll be amazed if u owned one.

im thinking of buying the focus ST next year as well. :D

and European cars are better than American cars. jap cars own all.

mazdas are quite good. the new one over here, i cant remember the model name but its only got a 1.3L engine but it pumps out 265BHP !!! woahh from a 1.3 littre. the focus ST i want has a 2.5L turbo and that only gets 225bhp.

so yeah... nice trick from mazda
