Smooth Finish VS. Orange Peel Hoods?!

Hello RIU long time no post, I have a question that I can't find an answer to any where on the internet and I hope this can help others out as well.

What is the difference between mirror/smooth finish hoods and orange peel(bumpy texture) hoods?

Yes but does that make them better than smooth finish? If so why r smooth finish more expensive and wat dies the smooth finish do to the light if it doesn't diffuse it. I just want to know the differences between the 2 so I cab make a better educated purchase without have the hydro guy just try to sell me a more expensive hood.

Please help. Doesn't anyone have an idea? I just need one good answer I'm not trying to get a whole research page on the info. Just a simple explaination. Please help

I think the dimpled reflectors scatter the light around more giving a more even spread within it's coverage. Which technically makes it better at light distribution than a flat surface and avoids hot spots or helps minimise concentrated growth areas. Light Spreaders do this as well apparently.

Maybe a good deal? Or the dimpled hood is made of less reflective material and the dimples are there to help make up for/mask the poorer quality? Probably best to go with whatever one has the highest rated reflectivity if you can find that out. Hoods are generally more expensive than reflectors.

Why do you think that houses mostly come with textured walls? Because it is easier to do and hides most of the defects easily.So, if the hood is made by the same manufacturer it is the materials or labor that cost more. It could also be that the smooth hood is more popular and thus more expensive.Dont beat yourself up about it, the difference will not be noticable if you are a new grower.

In my opinion I feel the smooth is better for 2 reason. 1) When light is reflecting off the dempled hoods the light is bouncing in all kinds of directions and with how light in weight they are at least in my room the air flow slightly rocks it at times causing a verry inconsistant light source to the plants, as where the smooth hood tends to be heaver so less movement in light and the smooth surface creates a more consistant light on your ladies. 2) I have 2 hoods in my room 2 1000w 1 is a smooth hood and the other is the textured both with the same hps hortilux bulb and every crop my smooth hood has about 2 inches better growth in the end. So I'd say smooth is better in my opinion but i still rock both anyway, no reason to replace it if it works. Hope this helped
