Smoking Weed A SIN?

These are great thoughts guys I agree that that is about balance. Cant let it take over your dreams keep the good ideas coming !

If god invented the earth and everything on the earth is for man to use (aside from that pesky tree of knowledge) then marijuana is given by god for man to use.

Not appreciating gods gift is kind of an insult I'd think.

I struggle with this question as well. But to play the Devil's advocate and say that it probably is a sin, I found this passage from the Gospel of Mark:

And they came and said to him, "Teacher, we know that you are true, and care for no man; for you do not regard the position of men, but truly teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not? Should we pay them, or should we not?" But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them, "Why put me to the test? Bring me a coin, and let me look at it." And they brought one. And he said to them, "Whose likeness and inscription is this?" They said to him, "Caesar's." Jesus said to them, "Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's." And they were amazed at him.
Mark 12:14-17 RSV

Now to explain my interpretation: I think that what Jesus is saying is that laws set up by a government on Earth should be adherred to. So, if we are breaking laws on Earth, are we are breaking His laws as well?

The US government says that marijuana is illegal. So we should follow that law. Does that make it a sin? I can't really say, but that verse sure as hell does confuse me when it comes to this matter.

29And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.
30And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

I don't think anyone would be anymore compelled to commit any sin while high compared to while sober. Perhaps gluttony.

If you are still free to make the right actions while high, your karma is clean. Or you could say there's no sin. Smoking marijuana is not necessarily an impairment.

If jesus died so all of mankinds sins would be forgiven, why does it even matter? You've got a free jesus pass, party on.......

god gave us free will so we could make our own decisions and gave us the oppertunity to repent. ppl sinned so jesus came, and died for our sins so that we wouldn't burn n go to hell. that doesn't mean we can continue to sin w/o repenting lol

I would think it's a sin..my 2 cents

but the question isn't "is it illegal" it's "is it a sin".

I thought our sins were pre-forgiven, therefore nothing is a sin, and before the 7 deadly sins come up, they are not mentioned anywhere in the bible. Those are man made.

I neve got the whole, jesus died for our sins thing. So beofre jesus, if you sinned you went to hell? Gee, no one mustve gotten into heaven then. So then I guess god had to revise that huh. But why did jesus have to die so that god could forgive our sins?

the bible says that jesus had to die to take our place in punishment for sin and therefore we wouldnt be doomed to hell and would be able to join god in heaven. Its a hard question to answer guys . I mean for me I smoke because im bored and I would say also because at times Im lonely considering I broke up with my girl of 4 years recently.So in essence its somewhat of an anti depressent so how is that any different from the millions of people that take anti depreesants this country? At least weed is natural and god given! right? One thing that is wierd is that when I pray and Im high my prayers are more clear and sometimes i can hear god in my mind more clear! I know that sounds wierd but its hard to explain

I feel like i know what you mean on this one when im high and i pray(not very often but i do) i seem to concentrate more deeply and feel a more spiritual/and mental connection...... Or i just feel high one of the two.... we may never know

It is no different than people taking anti depressants. Its a natural medecine. Im sure gods not trippin on weed.

Perhaps when you know what a sin is, you will realize if in fact smoking weed is a sin or not.

The question is not so much about smoking weed, as defining this term: sin.

Good and bad, evil vs holy, positives vs negatives. These are all subjective and inherently meaninglessly. Meaning highly arbitrary and easily nullified.

Aren't you glad to have so many willing people to persistently tell you what to think?

Weed is not man made it was given to us by god. So no its not a sin. The government made it illegal because of yellow journalism and corruption.

If there is a god (snort) and he did invent everything (yeah right) then why would marijuana be invented but not allowed for use? This is one of the things that shows that god was mad made.

So then I would think drinking beer would be a deadly sin...... it was totally man made.

If god wanted a bunch of beer swilling drunks on the planet, wouldn't he have invented the keg himself? (oh wait let me guess, we can drink beer because he gave us "free will") well then since pot has been here all along, take your jesus pass and rip it up......
