Smell fluctuates from dank to hay almost daily while in jar????

It took about 5 days to dry my six lil plants, i cut them in half, trimmed off the fan leafs and the fan blades with out any frost.

Then hung em up, they were all about 17in long after cutting them in half.

RH 30-45% and a solid 60F. NO FLUCTUATION

So on day 5 they were getn crispy on the out side but the stem still wouldn't snap. I did a final hair cut and jared it. Of course it smelt wonderful while trimming. It smoked okay too a lil wet but it fucken wrecked me!

I left them alone for a whole 24hrs, expecting them to really sweat and need to be dumped out for a couple days. NOPE no visible moisture AT ALL!!!!

It smelt great so I wasn't worried just thought maybe I aced it. Then later that day I checked again and it smelt like hay/pickles. So I let them air for 10min and capped them off again. Next time I checked they smelt fine, then like hay, then like chronic, then like hay. WTF Is this what the "curing" process is?

This frustrates me because it happens all the time, I bust my ass for 3mo growing just for it to come out like shit.

I have done A LOT of reading on curing and drying. don't dry too fast, jar em, re-dry if needed, chlorophyl break down, not too much air in the jar so on and so on.

YES THEY GREW TO FULL MATURITY, YES I FLUSHED VERRY WELL, AND NO MOLD.

Please help as im out of my wits with all this. I have been growing for 3yr and made a pretty big investment of money and time doing so and im about to quit! BUT thats not me, ill fuckn obsess until its perfect.:wall:

+rep to all
Happy Growing, you guys are the best and so is this website.:peace:

Try next time you harvest to trim just the BIG FAN LEAVES while its standing (preferably ONLY RIGHT at harvest time and makes it easy) then cut the entire plant a few inches up from the soil and just slow hang dry it like that.

I have tried many ways and i always get the dank and better tasting buds when i chop the whole plant at the base and the sugar leaves will cover the buds and further slow the drying process and will be similar to a cure with running a exhaust fan from your dry tent/room for a few hrs a day.

Not sure if it matters but my humidity is a bit higher which will lengthen the drying time and possible give your strain the smell you are looking for.

Good luck

Bean.

dont worry about trimming off the excess leaves untill its Cripsy on the outside and you have them in jars for a while.

TL;DR

Cut plants at the base when harvesting cutting off ONLY the big fan leaves.

Hang plant upside down in sealed dry tent/room.

Let dry till crispy on outside then start the cure and about 3-5 days into the cure you can trim the greener looking fan leaves off and you will be left with some smooth dank great tasting bud.

i know what u mean by hay, but hold in there..its like a fine wine it needs time to mature for the smells/flavours to come through x peace

trimming the leaves when dry is a major pain in the ass imo. i trim straight away..no messing
