Smartpot/root/water question +++rep

I simply melt several small holes in my regular pots. (using a hot nail)

It works great, the roots get air as the air-circulation supply oxygen through these holes, and there is no water running out of the holes when I water.

It's probably not equally effective, but close enough to stop me from buying anything.
There only like 2 bucks more then plastic pots and thats the cheap plastic pots..Nice square pots cost the same as a smart pot so i find it silly all the ways people try to save a buck but really in the big sceam of things were talkin dollars here.......I mean i spent thousands on my grow im not going to skimp on a few bucks i want my shit to be best it can ,,,,,Not that poking holes dosent work im just saying I rather run with the proven product using how it was designed to be used..... The smart pot just doesnt air rate the pot it air prunes the roots as well.....So im guessing your pot with holes poked in it prunes the roots aswell constantly causing small new roots to grow ?

Do i need to prune these? am I watering improperly is there too much moisture in the bottom of the dish or pot? Do i need to raise the smart pot off the dish so that oxygen can get to the roots that come out? do I just leave them and this is nothing bad?

Getting to the root of your questions: Do not prune the roots as that would be very detrimental to the health of your plants (it would not kill them, but it would slow down the growth of your plant), its impossible to tell if your watering improperly as i dont know the amount of water you are using and how often you water, I would take the smartpots off the dish because it is collecting excess drain off from when you are watering that the plants roots and bottom layer of your growing medium are just sitting in, which isnt ideal for the roots.

The answer to you question is not possible to say until next repotting. I find people judging other people because they do not buy more stuff somewhat offensive, and it is a problem for the Earth - in case you have not noticed. You also assume everybody lives in a country where these pots are available, and that nobody has problems ordering internationally. (I try to buy locally). End rant. (just as off-topic as FootClan). Sorry, RIU did not allow me to separate the lines today.

We use airpots and the results are definitely top-notch. Not to mention we got them second-hand and since they are durable plastic that isn't a problem. Those roots popping out everywhere just mean you're doing a good job. :]

Sorry man, I must have meant plebscrubber or have been confused about something. It was a bad day, I wrote lots of stuff on forums (not just this), and today I don't remember everything. I have nothing against these commercial products, it's just that during my current grow I made small holes in my buckets - which I believe might work in a similar way. That is what I do, I experiment all the time. I'm not bashing anything or anyone. On to nest forum... :-)
