Hiya guys!

Just wondering the best size (microns) to maximise hash using screens?

It doesn't need to be full melt. Just good enough to mould together into a hash ball.

I was hoping to keep it to 2 micron size seives.

Cheers,and happy growing!!

Mature resin heads typically are around 50 to 100 microns; you really only need 2 screens. I use a 120 micron SS screen to bounce the material on and a 60 micron silk screen to filter out any broken trichome stalks or underdeveloped heads. They are stretched over a simple wood frame and stapled in place. You can get larger and smaller size micron screens for further cleaning but I find it to be unnecessary; for full melt hash run through bubble bags.
Most times I just bounce the material lightly for a few minutes through the 120u metal screen and use the keif as is without further cleaning. The 60u silk screen under the metal separates the underdeveloped resin heads and/or broken trichome stalks that fall through; these are smokeable but too fine to burn well and it won’t stick together like full size heads do. Good for making edibles if you decarb.
You can easily mold the keif by just the heat of your hand in some parchment paper if you are gentle enough to avoid getting too much trash in it. Just putting the kief in a small jar for a week or so can solidify it into a low grade hash. I find the better it sticks together by itself the better it is.
Be gentle; it’s very easy to go too hard and end up with more trash than you want in your dry sifted keif. Lightly carding and gently bouncing the material will make for better end product.
