Should I harvest

I agree with @Thundercat a bit I think. Trich inspection while it can be fun to look at anytime should not really be used as a tool, for me, until the condition of the flowers being swollen and finished are met, theeeeeen start looking at trichs.

Nice bud shots, some people might cut those but I absolutely would not.

Thanks everyone. They have been getting quite dank past few weeks. Just been hoping not to kill them this entire grow

3 weeks..... much to happen yet! Don't be alarmed by some foxtailing... A somewhat normal thing for Sativa and Sativa heavy strains to express late...

Awesome info everyone. Just to give a little insight into grow, there all autos. I am growing in a pro mix peat mix with added perlite and vermiculite. Using general hydroponics flora trio. There planted in 5gal smart pots, in 4 by 4 tent. I'm running a 600watt hps light.

There is a lot to learn from the pistils and calyxs. The cannabinoids obviously form in the resin of the trichomes. However if the plant isn't done growing the buds, why would you even think that it is properly mature?

Lots of people harvest early, and get high so they think they made the right choice. However they don't even realize how much more weight and potancy they would have gotten by letting the plant properly finish. I've done the side by side tests on a variety of genetics I've ran over the years. Letting the plants properly finish ripening, which includes letting the calyxs stop growing, will produce much better yield, flavor, and potancy.

Trichomes can show some of the maturity of the plant, but you shouldn't even look at the trichomes until the pistils receed and the calyxs start to swell. That final 2 weeks of swell is sooo important. Thats when the plant adds more weight, and finishes actually ripening.

With that said, the OP has at least 3 weeks left. All his growth is new fresh growth. These plants are still stacking buds, they aren't even close to mature.
OH! Well said!

Go long novice growers, longer then you think.....

The reason we wait so long to harvest is so the cannabinoids and terpenes can develop and mature. The reason we shouldn't be looking at pistils is because they have nothing to do with development or maturity of cannabinoids and terpenes, their purpose is to catch pollen. And no matter what kind of plant you're growing, if you let it go past its harvest date it'll continue to add on weight. As for the cannabis plant it'll continue packing on weight but while cannabinoids and terpenes are degrading so you're basically sacrificing quality for yeild. Because the quality of a cannabis plant is inside the trichomes

That quality is only present in properly matured trichomes. The whole plant needs to properly mature for that to happen. I dont sacrifice potancy for yield. I harvest my plants when they are fully ripe. This gives me max yield for the max potancy.

this is another hyped thing ppl overlook imo.. ive choped the same plant ive been growing at so many diff times 56 -63 -70-77 and all between them days now at week 8 the high didnt last that long but the smoke and smell is there and if you smoke too much it will put you to sleep, now week 9 the high is last longer and its more potent.. at week 10 the smell is still strong the high is even better and its more potent! week 11 your just going to sleep after couple pulls-- i understand it degraged into cbd and its more sleepy bud... but quality was not sacraficed by yeild more like patients was rewarded with quality potency and yield!

Think about it this way. When a plant gets seeded, the pistils change colors shrivel up and the calyxs are nice and plump with forming seeds but it's still very far away from being harvested so how would you tell that a seeded plant is ready for harvest? Because based on the theory of harvesting based on calyx size and pistils seeded plants should be ready for harvest by the 5th week.
People will say it's completely different because there's seeds but it's not the bloom time remains the same. The only difference is there's seeds in the plant, calyxs and pistils change but what remains constant between seeded and unseeded plants? The development of the trichomes

Seeded plants have a new marker, the seeds

Pistils/calyx swell give a general indicator on how far along the plant is, don't over complicate it :bigjoint:

some of my chemD crosses are cloudy in the bulbous state... do i harvest yet? :weed::-D

So what you're saying is you shouldn't harvest a Seeded plant based on Pistils and calyxs? Then why would you harvest an unseeded plant based on that? Pistils and calyxs and when to harvest can't only be corralated sometimes.
And idk if you should harvest your crosses yet, personally I look for 10% or less of clear trichs before I harvest

That's not really true. I have seen fully ripe amber trichs in midflower. Not a whole bunch but they are there if you look all over the entire plant you'll see fully mature trichs amongst some cloudy and a bunch of clear

No, what I offered to your scenario is that when if your plant is seeded then you might have a new indicator for judging when it's finished but there's a lot of assumptions baked in like you intended to make these seeds for example.

Finished plants have a look, so do early plants. You can get a general indication of which way one is leaning without magnification. That doesn't mean you can't see trichs with the eye, when they're full they glisten at the right angle, but the global appearance of the plant would have already informed me of this.

My scenario was offered because those plants exhibit cloudy bulbous trichs in veg, tongue in cheek. See how trichs might get someone in trouble.. hard rules kind of suck sometimes, so use all the tools available.

in my post i gave a 28 day window of when my plant can be harvested when is the so called too late? when did i miss the mark? is the trichomes only ripe for 7 days? how big is the window? like i said i can harvest my plant at week 8 or week 11 and its great bud any week after 8 i wouldnt go past 11 because at that point the calx are swole and its nice and plumped or finished! when is that window?

I would bet that your yield is much better at 10 weeks then at 8 weeks as well as being much more potant.

Imo too late would be would be over 50% amber trichs and too early would be more mare than 20%clear. But what you're talking about is optimal harvest time. Some people may like the effects of a plant taken late some may like it earlier. When harvesting there's also an optimal harvest time factor, which is taking the plant when you like it. But you should be associating the effects with the trichs at the time of harvest not Pistils or calyx size.

What week do you chop on the norm? And I would love to see your plants when done please? I can’t see you chopping a plant that has white hairs coming off it because you seen a few amber trichs? Because you are missing out.. I see the trichs as a benchmark the plant tells you when it’s done! I’m after the high! So when I cut at week 8 and get a half hour high but when I wait till week 10 the high last 3 hrs! Big difference! Week 8 still throws out white hairs but is harvestable.. week 10 looks done no questions asked not saying I can wait 10 all the time some times I need to chop at 8 cuz no smoke and better than buying some.. but if I had tons of bud I would always wait and let them finish

Normally I aim for 60-70 days. But harvest for me is not about amber trichs, it's about clear trichs. In a post above I stated I take my plants when there is 10% or less of clear trichs
