Quick little veg side update!

First and foremost, the Perkin's Cut Cannatonic is killin it! I'm so happy I finally got her to take to my growing practices. I gotta say, I already see an enormous difference in the genetic expression of this plant when compared to my friends canna grow (shots fired canna!). I will point out, that this cultivar is the only one that kind of struggles in his garden... it rarely looks happy and vibrant and by the end of flower the leaves are just miserable and looking tired. All his other cultivars grow fine. I'm wondering if this Perkins is just getting tired and needs some natural healing The differences I'm seeing are stem structure and appearance; more robust, better color and less rigid. Another difference is much faster growth, and I'm only vegging under a 400w MH Blue by eyeHortilux. His seem to take quite a while to veg. Now we do have some significant environmental differences... he grows with LED and his temps are definitely warmer than mine (in a good way). So There are some other influencing factors. Anyway, here she is....



Next up is the Cookies 'n Chem from Greenpoint. I still can't determine the sex but it's very close. I suspect by this weekend I'll have them narrowed down. All I want is one lady! Anything more will be a bonus. They are very indica dominant in appearance. The leaves are massive, most are far bigger than my hand. They're also not easily coaxed into promotion of side branching. I've been pinching them regularly. If I don't see any improvements by the weekend I think I'm just going to top them and make it happen the hard way haha. Overall though, very healthy.



The confidential cheese is overdue for flower, but hanging on just fine. I'm putting them in this weekend. They are some of the best looking I've grown to date. Huge lush canopy, which is great because they don't stretch much in flower at all. So the bigger the better. Going to lollypop the shit out of them on friday night and put them in at the end of the weekend.



And finally a full veg shot wrap up. The 4x4 is WAAAAAAAAY overcrowded and I'm thankful it hasn't been detrimental. I'm upgrading to something bigger soon. I can't put them through this anymore lol. I just had too many going at once and ended up getting jammed.



One thing I'd like to wrap up with... I can't say quite enough how fucking pleased I am with this eyeHortilux "Blue" MH. It's such a great spectrum. Color Rendering Index (CRI) is around 90 if I remember right. I'm actually going to flower under these bulbs and see what happens. They have enough reds for it. I'm curious to see how it affects the transition between veg and flower. Switching spectrums so abruptly like that from MH to HPS... yeah that's beyond unnatural haha. So I'm going to go veg through flower using only the Blue eyeHortilux. If it goes well, I may consider picking up some 3k spectrum LEDs, timbergrowlights 3VL in particular, to put between my 600w HIDs to add some red spectrum and get a nice balance. Anyway enough rambling.... Flower room updates coming in a day or two. Didn't wanna blow my whole wad in one post LOL.

mh with a red spectrum? Awesome i like what you said about switching the abrubptly being unnatural.I did that with my last crop and failed miserably. Flipped the lights and hit them with full strength chemical nutrients and shocked the hell out of them until they locked up and died lol im also trying to transition to flower more gradually. This last week of veg i switched the lights to 14-10, theyve been on 16-8 for the past couple weeks. Im running "full-spectrum" led's throughout the grow as well so i guess thats a little less shock too than my usual mh/hps flip.im interested to see the results of this.

when I switch to flower, if possible, I like to give the entire room 24hrs darkness, and then run 12/12. I can't say for a fact if it helps and can't prove anything, but I like it, and to me it's seems to make the transition a lot smoother with less stress! but hell if I know.

I can't wait to get a new place. I want the ability to have separation to test things instead of one flowering room. I like your approach with gradually switching to flower. I have been contemplating that myself, but I just can't with my current setup. I'd love to go from 20/4 to 16/8 to 11/13. Even just one week of 16/8 would be interesting to see what the effect is on transition times. Instead we are just telling them veg veg veg right to flower now! The future is going to be amazing

same here man, been wanting to save up and move, I have 2 rooms now, 1 flower 1 veg, I can easily expand my veg, tons of extra room, but it's pointless without a second flower room!

my goal one day is a 12x12ish veg room, and two 15x15ish flower rooms, that way I can still run my tents, and have room to work! I like to keep things separated, which is why although I could easily convert the whole room, fit maybe dbl the ladies, I wouldn't have as much space to work and play around! I like my tents! plus easier to clean!

Guess were all moving to get more grow space lol im moving into a house with a basement. Its got two 10x10 rooms all the way in the back that will be a perfect mother/clone room on one side and flower on the other.

I have found the gradual transition does not benifit plant development significantly. It is not that there is more or less stretch, but it causes the plant to devlop slightly different. It lengthens bud structure slightly but not to the point of increasing yields.

I used an arduino to handle the transitions, I did up to a 4 week transition, shaving equal time off sunrise/sunset. Pretty much however I looked at it, any more than a few days extended flower time.

10-12 runs, about 3 years worth. I wanted it to be better, I had a hard time letting go, kinda emotional about it still.

Well if there's one thing we know about cannabis, it seems to have a tendency to produce additional secondary metabolites under stress... so maybe we are doing ourselves a favor with drastic light cycle and spectrum shifts lol. At least you did the experiment though. Most do not have the discipline!

20$ for half a gallon? yeah definitely not paying that. I was getting mine from the grow stores 1cuft. for 28$ or something i think. which is still expensive. if you're in the states you can get it from KISorganics for like 18$ a cuft + shipping

Try a farm supply store or a landscaping store.

does it have to be pumis?why not something cheaper, or maybe something you can get local! if your just looking for aeration, then it won't hurt to switch it up a lil bit, I go back n forth between rice hauls, pumis, perlite, there's tons of things that can be used! I get rice hauls very very cheap!

rice hauls is one of my favs, for a few reason, 1 it breaks down and turns into organic matter, 2 is does help with aeration, and 3 it works great as a mulch as well, also its so cheap u can pay for it with the change in your truck!

i like them as a mulch for sure, but hate them for aeration (especially for no-till). I'd much rather have pumice. Pumice has CEC. perlite has no CEC (or very minimal). Scoria is awesome though, and that you can get super cheap, problem is you usually have to crush it yourself lol.

Pea gravel is cheap and it works well.
