how long does it take for a plant to show its sex i just started my 12 /12 lighting today

Depending on the maturity of the plant(s), could be three days to two weeks, possibly more.

Usually within 2 weeks they will show their sex.

Usually within two weeks but some take a little longer. My almost pure sativa took almost 3 wks
