Serious Problems in 1st Grow

Okay, I have a few young babies that are about 2 weeks now and are showing stunted growth and yellowing and browning of the leaves. I'm running a DWC system with rockwool in hydroton balls. All thas in the res right now is water with SuperThrive and a lil bit of H202. Thas it and they're getting worse by the day. Can someone please help me? this is my 1st grow and i'd like it to be going better than what it is now.
 
you need to aerate the water. Get an airpump (a dual diaphram one) and pump some air into the water solution. They are essentially drowning.
 
Thanx "anything" for responding but to answer you, I have to pumps right now(both with dual outlets) w/ 5 airstones right now in a 10 gallon rubbermaid. I've read that you should bring the water up to the bottom of the net pots. I done that and it seemed that the rockwool would just soak up too much water. My babes are close to two weeks now and i'm not seeing anywhere near the growth that I should be seeing. Today I think i was just going to let a lil bit of the res water out so there's just enough space between the net pots and the water for the bubbles to get the rockwool slightly damp.

Idk if i should add any nutes yet, I have the General Hydroponics 3 part series. Ive read about the Mg deficiences, Idk if my plants are suffering from it. It's hard to tell for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Calling all fellow growers and DWC users

My bad. I missed the rockwool thing. You're absolutely right. Rockwool is only advantageous if it gets to dry out b/w ebb/flow cycles or drip or whatever. If that stuff is staying soggy on your roots all day, you're going to have problems. Get rid of it (carefully) and just go the hydroton route. If you just get the water just under the tips fo the roots, the splash from the popping air bubbles will keep them wet enough. I tend not to recommend rockwoll for DWC unless it is the high drainage kind like Pargrow or Cultilene - regular Grodan tends to stay too wet.

If you can't cut away all the grodan, try exposing to the air more so it tends to dry better.
 
PS - if you want to shoot me some pics, I'll try to see if you have Mg deficiency - I really doubt it, though, because they are so young.
 
yes..I've checked the pH. I keep it around 5.6-6.0 so it stays pretty stable throughout the day.

"Anything" - When you said go the "hydroton route," did you mean to place the plant directly into the hydroton w/o the rockwool? I've seen people do that before, so I'm juss trying to verify if thats what you were saying.

Here are a few pics of the lil one's...but juss a imagine the one thats curled upwards to look a lil worse and the one thas droopy to look a lil bit worse and more yellowed. I dont know whats going on but what do you think could be the problem. Juss the other day I used "Lucas Formula/Method" and it seems it may have perked them up a lil it's still too early to tell.

Lemme know what yall think

i am having the same problem only i'm in soil...and i've been reading around that too much superthrive can stunt the growth???? don't know for sure, but i have stopped as of last watering and i'm hoping to see some faster growth...
 
Here are my 2 sense,

Cover your rockwool cubes entirely with your hydroton balls, light causes algae which will 100% surly stunt growth and cause root rot.

Where is your light and what kind are you using? I suggest a 2-3 Highoutput 54 watter(s) about 3-5 inches from the top of the plant, and run your light 24-0 for about a week or so then 18-6 through veg then 12-12 to flower.

I wouldnt put the rockwool in the system until you see root(s) comming through (not just one root)

get a b1 foiler and spary them once every 3 days you shouldnt have a problem

You ph is to low if ur hitting 5's try and keep it between 6.3-7.1 thats where i keep mine and i have great success with it.

Just my two sense let me know how they turn out

I have heard nothing but bad news from 1st time growers when trying to use this method, rockwool is a very good and successfull growing medium cant image why you would get rid of it, just cover your cubes up and you'll be fine
 
i dont know if im having a problem but how soon do the baby leaves, the mall round ones fall off the plant,all of them have 2 small leaves like on a full grown plant but the maller round ones are terning yellow an dieing but the other 2 leaves look green ect. plez help

Kush right now I have 5 - 26 watt Daylight 6500K CFL's and 2 - 23 watt Warm 2700K CFL's in the Rubbermaid right now. That sit within the range you listed of 3-5".

Since you say dont put the rockwook in the dwc then how do I go about gettin the roots to blossom so I can put it in the dwc?

Cant exactly say I know what a b1 foiler is...sounds like a spray bottle perhaps?

And as far as the pH goes...the reason I've been going with that is because thats what I've read in a few places...not saying it's right but since i'm a beginner and thats all I was reading thas what i was going with. But I'll let it rise some and see how things are. I'm going to cover up the rockwool cubes and see if that helps out any.

Yes...so far rockwool hasnt helped me at all lol But it's been mostly due to retaining too much water. Thanx for the suggestions though, keep em coming
 
hey yea dude no prob that why this fourms is here.

the lights sound good, as i posted about the 54 watters that is just what i use which is why i felt i should reccomend them

as far as the roots go, if you have a cooling rack (such used when baking a cake :D) then i suggest that you place your rockwool cubes on that and adjust the light accordingly from what i can put together it sounds like you might be over watering? how often do you flood trhe cubes? i would suggest once ever 3-5 days.

and with the b1 you are dead on. b1 is a nute that helps with root growth and early veg it comes in a concentrated form that ou mix with water and put in a spray bottle.

what i think (am im almost 100% sure) is happening is that your over watering the cubes at such a young age, by placing the cubes in the DWC system you are allowing the cube to constantly absorb water there in causing your over watering. so as i said you should see if you can get a cooling rack and let them grow for id say 5 more days on that until u roots that are about 1/8 of an inch away from the bottom of the cube allowing you to se the water level at the tip of the roots rather then the bottom of the cube, remember once your roots tap the water they will grow towards it :D
 
oh yea and with the ph, 5s are to low and im 10000000% sure of that. im gonna start a grow blog next harvest hopefully it will help you further more
 
and mort you should be trimming before they fall off, if they fall off then you have a problem let me know
 
hey guys braqnd new to this sight and not sure how to post a thread i was just wondering what is the best way to et rid of god damn spider mites, I've heard a lot of things neem oil, soap, and what about a NON PEST STrip any info back would be much appreciated.
 
preciate it kush...yea I took the water level down and it seems that it's helping the little ones. They were definitely being drowned and I also placed some hydroton between the rockwool the bottom of the net pot so that seems like it's helped. I'll keep you posted on the progress.
