Hey RIU,

As is start drawing closer and closer to the day where i make 1 plant into 6 (probably saturday) i am starting to wonder how i'm going to go about it. iv been going over old research and videos that i have which are all very informative but i'm wondering if any members of the community have any extra tips or pointers in the cloning dept.

I plan on making 6 cuttings from the lower branches of the plant which i am told is a better place for cloning.i will be using a sterile razor blade to make a 45 degree cut. I will be using cloning gel and planting directly into moist soil in small peat cups before misting thoroughly and placing in a propagator under my 400w HPS.

Sounds very easy in theory but im frightfully scared of butchering my best plant and potentially setting back my schedule so if anyone has any good methods or pointers for me please post away !

Everything's lookin good buddy!
I don't claim to know alot about cloning except from my experience. I think we can agree on all of the details as I am sure you have looked into all of it.
I started cloning last Aug with some Lemon Skunk. Everything went great on the first one in rockwool. Then I started trying peat pellets, coco, and soil. None of them worked well for me ( They need constant attention...like my second wife) and I lost about 20 cuttings in a row. I nearly lost my last OG and tried my Bubbleponics tub which was 100% successful. It was a bit cumbersome though so on the next batch I made a cloner similar to the Daisy Cloner out of a 5 gal bucket and a pump. I have not lost a clone since.
I highly recommend a cloning bucket. Set it and forget it! It cost me about $25 for the misters, pvc, pump, and bucket. I use small net pots with neoprene collars. All I do is put them in and check the PH in about a week. They are always very well rooted in 14 days...sometimes a little too much. I transplant them in 6" pots for a little veg time before the Big Game.
It has worked for me for the last 4 grows in my perpetual.

hey thanks for the tips man always good to see what works for everyone else :bigjoint: when u tried the soil and peat pellets did u leave them in standing water or didu just keep the medium moist ? i plan on misting mine with canna rhizotonic which does wonders for clones but everything needs to happen in soil unfortunately. my cloning methods put to the test is sure gna be interesting ..... can he walk the walk ?

I am a notorious over/under waterer. That is why I always look for a foolproof method...one even a monkey can do. If these poor darlings expect me to figure out when they need water, they are relying on a poor source.
All seriousness aside though, I tried my best to keep the "moist but not wet" environment. Standing water didn't seem to bother the rockwool clones but the dirt, coco and peat didn't like it. I just got tired of having to keep a close eye on them, not to mention losing clones and weeks of time.
I use canna a+b @ < 200 ppm in 5.8ph water with 1 drop of superthrive in 2 gallons.
I am sure you will do fine. It's hard to hurt a mum and cuttings are practically free. Hell, I've thrown away dozens of them.

I've been keeping rather quiet recently as the isnt really much to report just veggin some plants, theyre doing nicely and il be cloning them as soon as my gel and cutthroat razor blades arrive, do still need to get a propagator but theyre cheap and in the shop pretty much across the road so il go get one as requried :bigjoint:

was just looking at the culmination of a months work from dry seed, it really does offer a sense of peace or tranquility looking in there and seeing what i've done so far is working :weed:

The above pictures are of the future mother, she is now 10 inches high and has a number of good cloning sites and i'm loving the deep green colout and fat long leaves :D

IMG00289-20110501-1703.jpg

And here are the other 2 plants that seem to have lost out in my selection process, i have made arrangement for them to get a new home , i have a friend who wants to make a run at growing and im going to try give him a little head start :D In furute you probably wont see these 2 anymore so say your goodbyes :bigjoint: , these lsd plants are rather smelly already so im looking forward to what flowering holds in stock for us :D

As the title suggests, i took 8 cuttings off of my prime LSD plant thismorning and cloned them , and put them in their new propagator! , now only time will tell :weed: its cool though at Hour 4 of the ordeal the plants dont seem very shocked at all ? .... we will see

Anyway i snapped a few pics for all to see, i still havent quite gotten rid of my other 2 plants so things are starting to look rather busy in there :D

IMG00292-20110507-1022.jpgIMG00297-20110507-1228.jpgIMG00296-20110507-1130.jpgIMG00295-20110507-1130.jpgIMG00294-20110507-1023.jpgIMG00293-20110507-1023.jpg

I have also noticed chemical nutes really do demand a lot more attention than my old organic line, you really have to pay more attention to what the plant wants and when, i've already had a few scares but i'm working out the details :bigjoint: things arre coming along just fine :D

Thanks for reading Day 37 ...

I managed to get a few more pics in last night with a higher quality camera , so heres a few more detailed pics of wats going on in my growroom, the nutrient defficiency i have caused has become more apparent. this will be dealt with at my next watering :D

The update on the cloning is as follows at hour 24, no dead cuttings yet !! still seem rather perky and happy in fact but iv gotta say this waiting game is killing me. but i have high hopes :D

Have started feeding immediately after every rain , every 3 days, my plants are thanking me now :D and now on to the main event!

The cuttings that i took on saturday seem to be showing signs of new growth!! .... ALL of them haha ! of course nothing is for certain at this stage but not bad for a first attempt i would say :bigjoint:

If there is new growth there is bound to be roots which means now i will hit them with ther first ever 1/4 strength dose of rhizotonic, if all goes accordingly i will have successful clones by sunday latest :D i am pleased , here are my cuttings/clones at day 6 :

IMG00301-20110512-2030.jpg

If these babys take we can start getting down to the fun part of growing soon !!, thanks for reading
