Seeds appearing at surface but have not done anything else for the last 4 days.

First time closet organic grower. I germinated my seeds using the paper towel method and the taproot came out fine. I then transplanted them to fox farm organic planting soil. after about three days the seeds appeared at the surface but have not done anything since, and it has been another three days. I'm using a 4oow hps at about 20 inches about the pots with temps around 86 F. Did I do anything wrong or should I just find some more patience? Any help would be much appreciated.

:leaf:hi,im using the same setup and temp and mine do fine. have you dared to take a peek under a lid:leaf:

CHECK IT OUT:weed:

That is not a good soil for seedlings. It is too hot and will burn young roots. Next time, use a seed starter soiless mix for the plants first 14 days.

I dug the side out of one of the seeds and the taproot was longer than when it was put in but had broke off into any other directions.

Really? the Guys at my local organic and hydro store told me that that soil would be the best. But obviously there is a problem so ill a give a different soil a try too!

Thanks

cut back on the lights...400 watt hps might be too much for these seeds to take..ff soils run a little hot for seedlings.i start all my seedlings under low watt cfls...then start adding more light to it after it starts to develop

I use FFOF when i start my seedlings. The only thing i do different before sticking my babies under the HPS is getting them ready for the HPS with cfls. What kind of pots or cups did you start them in? If they were sprouted 3 days ago in the towel and they showed a taproot, and they've been in the pot for 4 days. they should have displayed some green by now. The best thing to do when you have these problems is to just let them do their thing. Messin wit em really gives them a bad shock. Seedling are very fragile, they arent as strong and rigid as they are during veg and flowering.

I'm no expert but I agree with docsativa, just let them do their thing.

Yes, they should have shown some green by now, but I had one do this and for the heck of it I just kept the soil moist as the others I had began to grow leaves. Then one day the one that didn't seem to grow was alive, poked some green through the soil and then ended up doing fine. Perhaps the ones you have are just concentrating on growing the tap root at the moment and will eventually be OK.

:leaf: i only use sowing and potting compost throughout my grows :leaf: keep us posted :leaf: ps hps 400w needs to be higher, i get some long stems but they do fine :weed:

Be patience, I also started my seedlings in FF, but i used FFOF right from when they cracked the seed pod. I put them in one Quart cups that i soaked with plain ph'ed 6.7 water, below are the pic's, BE PATIENT!!, The only differnce between this grow and last, was that this grow i used a MH from day 1 untill flowering, then i went with the HPS for flowering and they both were 400w. keep your light as close to the tops as you think comfortable, use your hand as a guide, if it's to hot for the backside of your hand then its to hot for your plants.

Thanks a lot everyone, this morning when i went to move my fan the air hit the cups and all three of the seeds flew out and the taproots left in the cups were all dead. So it looks like Ill be started over from scratch. After that setup i started with, what do you guys think would be the best changes for me to make now?

This time dont use the paper towel method if it didnt work well for you last time. just plant your seed 1/4" deep in soil. keep it moist with the light at the appropriate level they should pop out 5-7days, just dont be poking at the dirt or trying to mess with the seedlings or else they can die. x/
