Security question: how safe is it on this sight??

No shit its not safe, i'm so sorry that asking the user's of this site if they think it is makes me childish...maybe the one who needs to grow up is the one who just throws insults and doesn't stop to think that instead of spending time sifting through endless search results i could just start a new thread and check that the next day...f'in idiot

and as a mature adult, who is (i must apologize again for the 'childishness' of not being computer savvy) trying find out about proxy servers, so he can be safe on the internet, because he did think about the risks, and he is acting accordingly, b/c he doesn't like big fat pigs who try to catch pot smokers

See there is this thing that was invented. It was designed to answer all your questions without ever getting sassy, we call it the search engine. Since you arn't tech savvy maybe you haven't heard of them yet. They basically will retrieve a list of relevent pages to whatever you type in.

Sorry for being a dick but really, you were just like "give me instant information cause I am to LAZY to find it myself".

I am always down to educate people that need educating but damn. I mean the area you posted in was designed for answering questions about cannabis growth for newbies.

Really didn't mean to seem like to big of a dick, just please can you at least make sure it is in a more relevant area so people who have questions about n00b growing can get their precious plants saved?

no worries bro, already tried searching, sifting through endless pages w/o success-not really my thing

and it couldn't hurt newbs to be reminded that talking about their precious plants online could possibly be jeopardizing their freedom

What happend to freedom of speech? He could be telling a fairytale or fantasy for all anyone knows; the pictures could be from a different source on the internet. If a search is initiated/began from ip address logs and no true evidence has been seized to substantiate a warrant, THEN YOUR FREEDOME OF SPEECH/PRESS & RELIDION HAS BEEN VIOLATED!!! IT WOULD BE CONSIDERED AN ILLEGAL SEARCH, If LEO's can't prove otherwise, your case would be thrown out.

It's the most important amendment in our bill of rights.

In my honest opinion, the only thing you should be worried about is deleting your internet history, using Internet Explorer INPRIVATE Browsing option and buying a Anti-Virus and a Spyware remover. Also, just dont' tell anyone you know about this site; they might leave traces on other computers while browsing. (Which could compromise you **IF** you are doing anything less than legal)

The only thing anyone on this forum should be concerned about is who/what users has/have access to the ip address log on this forum... Do all moderators have IP address lookup permission? Or is RollItUp the only one that has access?

If all Moderators of this forum have access to these IP Logs, and one of them goes crazy psycho, they could 'Voluntarily' hand them over the LEO's, and ALL Accounts could be compromised by beginning investigations.

Hey man. No insult intended... But, you really didn't search all that hard. If you decide to take the time to follow this link, you will see a plethora of information. The RIU FAQ! I'm a noob also, and always try to figure it out at the FAQ first. Then if you still can't figure it out, you post. And, I always admit that the info is there but I just can't figure it out sometimes. In #1 "getting started" there is a section on security. If you look down near the bottom you will see a section titled "miscellaneous". Click on that and you will see a section titles "computers"... That should answer all your questions. If not try researching the NSA and your state's MMJ laws to further understand the risks involved with growing MMJ and computer technology.

I wouldn't worry about any of that. I'm not the 1st in this thread or elsewhere to mention the fact that if you're sticking to your state's limits, you don't really have anything to worry about.
That being said... For all of you on here who don't know about the NSA. They are the agency that provides ALL INTEL to every branch of military, government... You name it. It came from the NSA. They have databases of every communication ever made. Every email, phone call, text message. They keep info about every aspect of our lives. If they want you, they can break any code, decipher any encryption. Almost all modern encryption codes are developed by the NSA's head technicians. There is nothing they can't find out about you (anyone) if they want you. So, if you are not sticking to the limits??? NEVER EVER POST ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You would essentially be sending them an invitation.
"Dear NSA, please forward my home address and all neccessary information to expedite my prosecution to my local DEA agency. Thank you kindly, and I can't wait for an extended vacation in your lovely federal prison system."
One more example: As soon as I clicked submit posting this message. One of many extremely advanced computers dedicated to detecting threats, just flagged my message because I used the letter combination of nsa. Also dea would cause a flag. The flags are then checked by human technicians who analyze the priority and validity of the threat.
Example:
A couple years ago a Christian Minister who was involved with the local Cub Scouts had a get together with the Scouts and their families. They all came to church and baked brownies and had a wonderful time.
The minister had recently purchased his 1st ever computer and digital camera. He took pictures of the party, and wanted to send them to his sister who lived out of state. He was not very computer savvy and not only did he attach corrupted unviewable pics, he made a typo. He accidently pressed the "n" instead of the "b". the 2 letters are right next to each other.
He typed "teenagers naked brownies"... Obviously he meant to type "teenagers baked brownies"... Anyhow it took the minister 2 weeks to prove his innocence and get released from jail. He was arrested with-in 2 hours of posting.

And, yes posting this message just got me flagged on an NSA computer, that's only job is to locate child pornography scumbags. Different computers for different types of threats. So, you see the Patriot Act is not such a bad thing in some ways. I don't mind giving up some freedoms to get trash like that off the streets. I stick to the limits and laws and have nothing to hide.

This is just a copy & paste of my previous posting on https://www.rollitup.org/legal-edge/82672-where-server-4.html#post3213668 . I figured it would be a good idea to post that here as well.

--------------------------

Figured I should chime in w/a few things. I originally said something similar back in my DSS (satellite) hacking days many years ago.

First, all of you know the legal risks in your location, if you don't you should. Ignorance is no excuse, it'll also help you from freaking out if anything happens and at least give you an idea what your up against if you run into any trouble.

Second, a lot of risk can be minimized if you just take some basic (and some advanced) precautions;

Stupid easy stuff -> Don't give out your address, phone number, etc. Don't leave pictures with easily identifiable personal information; face, bills, front of your house. Be careful giving away information about local landmarks and such, info about family or your new car you just bought. Only tell people about your setup that you trust, and even then people get funny about stuff like this. Best to tell no one or keep the knowledge about your setup down to a minimum.

Moderate stuff -> Use a browser like FireFox and get one of the many proxy addons. This will hide your IP address at least from the website (there are still (low) chances of law-enforcement getting your ip from the proxy). Clear your cache every once in a while or surf in private mode. Make sure your anti-virus is up to date.

Advanced Stuff -> So, some have super large grows and have more risk of being put away for a very long time, law enforcement also tends to use more resources for bigger catches. Some larger growers or paranoid people should take some advanced steps like paying for anonymous services or remote desktop to a server that is out of the country and connect through there. Use VPN or SSH to securely pipe all your data through a remote off-shore server. Also use applications like bcwipe to wipe your free space. You can setup a scheduled job to do this every once in a while. Less chances of getting evidence from deleted files.

Optional but recommended -> participate or donate to local and national legalization groups. The sooner weed is legalized the less we have to worry about in the longer run.

Hope some of this information is helpful. Didn't mean to hijack a thread but when I was doing DSS and now growing, I always assume law enforcement is watching the forums. You never know, there maybe snitches/undercover, the trick is to always assume there is and take basic steps to hide yourself. Whether smoking, growing or whatever.

Be safe out there.

One day I'm actually going to make a thread with more detailed information for this exact purpose.
