Secret Jardin vs Grow Cabinet: Cant decide!

:leaf:Whats up everyone, I have another thread started titled Pc grow fem UFO c-99 and im about 33 days in. I want to up my yield and grow in a bigger area, any tips and ideas will help.

Im using a small closet in my apt but big enough to fit a grow tent/cabinet. Found a 30in wide cab on homedepot.com roughly 4ft high, tht i was going to put 200w cfl in and install 120mm cpu fans, this will all cost me around 125-150 to put together.

But i have always wanted to buy a jardin, i dnt mind paying the extra cost involved w/ it either including buying a inline fan, carbon filter, etc. Roughly around 500.00 from greners.com thts w/o a light though, my buddy has a 400w digi ballast tht i can borrow though.

Which would b a better setup? Is it too risky to have a hps/mh in an apt? even though i will b putting a lock on the closet door and no apt staff ever comes to my place. Also what about the jardin idea but use a CFL instead? Any responses will help....

**Change of plans, for sure im going to get a grow tent. Should I get the SJ PRO II DR60, or Growlab GL80? I put pics of both, I hear great things about both, but i want to hear from yal help me out....:leaf::clap::-P

I've had a GL60 for veg and ran a DR120W at the same time for flower. Personally, I like the Secret Jardin better, easier to use. The GL's have too many zippers, I think it's 5 zippers to open the front versus 1 big zipper for the Secret Jardin

They both work great and I think it just comes down to preference

I wouldn't use a CFL in a tent.

Don't get me wrong, CFLs are great for grows too small for HID. If you constantly adjust them and have a lot of them they could be as good as (or better than?) a HID for bigger plants, but it's not going to be efficient and its going to be a hassle. If I was in your shoes, I'd just get that 400w going and get a nice SOG growing.

I also recommend you go with HPS over the 200w cfl, I currently use a 200w cfl to veg but I don't think it'll be very good through flower. Only thing with HPS is you might need to get better ventilation than using PC fans

For such a small space you could also go with LED, there are decent set ups out there for compact area's. It'll cost you more up front but will save you tons in the long run. Look up Blackstar LED's, they're a decent LED and a Blackstar 90w should work better than a 200w cfl not to mention it'll run cooler, IMO.

I appreciate the input guys, i visited my local hydro store after work and they had a GL80 on display and it looked pretty sweet. I love the jardin and have always wanted one but the GL80 offers a little more space and is a perfect fit for my closet. The guy at the hydro store was telling me that a HID might b too much for this op, but i think with the proper ventilation i should b okay right? Would I only need 1 inline fan to go through light and w/ a filter or would i need additional ventilation. If i was to buy it all right now my setup would b GL80 tent, 400w w/ digi ballast, 4" active air inline fan, 200 cfm phresh filter, and insulated ducting.. tell me what yal think???

Yea i was thinkin that, will be posting more pics of the pc grow shortly. All that being said, the 400w wont cause overheating? Thats really my only concern, i just dont want to spend all this dough and then have to deal w/ overheating.

With a GL80, you might be able to get by with a 400w if your ambient temperatures are good and you have an air-cooled reflector. Otherwise, I personally think that the GL80 would be best suited with a 250w HPS. I have a SJ DR100L and believe that they make the best tents.

definitely get a jardin. great quality. plus ull never get a cab under your bed when its not in use ;)

Yea Like ive said i have always wanted a jardin but for the space that i have its a choice between the Dr60 or GL80 and the GL offers a little more room.. but im all for getting the Dr60 if im able to put an Hid in.. i dont wanna use cfls even though they do a serviceable job

I wouldn't put 400w into a DR60, it's only 2' x 2' and that's probably more suitable for 250w HPS and about 4 plants in 2 gallon pots (IMO)

The DR90 3' x 3' should be able to handle 400w hps with the proper ventilation. A 6" cool tube might be short enough to fit in there, if not a shorter hood should work too.

I think it'd be about the same as the DR90, you'll need a short enough hood to get 6" ducting, and if you go with a 4" inline fan you'll also need a 6 to 4 inch reducer

Yea im going to get the jardin dr60 i decided. I trust the name and 2x2x5.2' should b plenty space for 1 plant for now and its only 134 on greners.com. I am going to do scrog method just wasnt sure what the best way to make a scrog for a tent, i was just going to buy chicken fence,,,, and other or better ideas?

I run a 400W HPS in a 6" cool tube inside of a 3 x 2 x 4 tent in a closet. I run 80-85 temps all the time. Only have a 6" inline booster fan (~150 CFM) for its cooling as well. Might be easier to manage temps with the 250W HPS though. Hope this helps.

get yourself a dimmable ballast and go hid, i have a 600w in a dr80 secret jardin, i forget the dimensions but its just under 3x3 and i have np keeping 600 watts cool in that thing however, it requires an active intake. i just bought a 30$ bathroom fan at 90cfm. 4inch exhaust and routed it into the tent. 3 degrees above ambient in my tent. but wether u go 400 or 600 (which i would recommend) spend the extra dough for a dimmable electronic ballast, extremely versatile and great for beginners

I think this is what im gonna go with:

Secret Jardin Dr60
250 watt hps/mh digi ballast air cooled hood
Phresh filter 4" 200cfm
Active air 4" inline fan 160cfm
Thermoflo Insulated ducting
