second grow first time hydro dwc

the soil plant have been sat next to the hydro as in the video so they have near the same light as the hydro so it's mainly down to the hydro system being better at growing for me that is.
i am using more light's than i did in the last grow at this point. but the soil are no where near the hygrown plants in growth rate. i think i am a hydro convert.

i have a couple of 150w m/h bulbs and ballasts but i don't know how old the blubs are and i can't get any new ones as most places near me don't stock 150w h/m bulbs and i got the last 150w hps blub from the hydro shop and was told they were not getting any more.

is it worth putting in one of those h/m lights in if i can maintain the temp?

That says enough to me. Tell me Kulan, what height would you need for a hydro setup. I dont think Ive got even anywhere close to the room size requirement for that set-up. It is very impressive, might be convert maself now too, lol:joint:

You gonna feel tired today too mate, I just got out of bed in the last hour. I was up with the wee fella couple times in the morning but mum took over for lunchtime. Im getting lazy with no job. Im feeling lucky about the week ahead though. +ve thoughts M8, Enjoy the W/E

i have about 140cm(4'7") high room, the buckets are about 30cm(1ft) high and leaving 15cm(6") for light. envirolite or cool tube 600w then i will have about 100cm(3'3"), if i get a standard reflector then 80cm(2'6") room to grow.
you could knock about 10cm off the pot size if you went to NTF.

but i would say you need 100cm+ for a DWC grow without training. but if you trained the plants you could grow within a 70cm high room

i got to sleep about 4.30ish got up at 9.30 i tend to sleep about 5 hours a night then after a week or so i need a good 12-14 hours to recharge the battery.

you'll be impressed with their extreme bushiness and rapid rate of growth!

ok so where was i update

so today i transplanted the 4 best plant into homemade oxy pots. and the other 2 into passive hydro pots(hempy)

the pots contain 8 litres of water

to this i added 24mil of nute i was going to add more but the plant has suffered some nute burn i think from the 150ms it had i have check the EC 4 hours after nute and transplant and it's 110ms i will be taking this up to 130ms over the next few days.

after adding the nute ph was 5.8 in all pots

apart from the slight burn the plants look a little shocked.

a quick question if you have to take the plant out of hydro for any time is it better to be supended in air or water or just the bottom of the roots in water?

so here is the new set up i will have to cover the hempy pot with black plastic soon.
(pics 104-109)

ok quickly on to 11pm update the burn has not got any worse i have covered the hempys with black plastic.

here are some pics (pic110-112)

i think the hempy's are pineing for there old home but i am happy as the plants look bigger in the new home's and i can move them to fill the humidifier up.

Email i am thinking of another 3-4 weeks veg before i flick them what do you think?
i have about a meter or so hight for growing in thats after taking in account for the buckets and light rig. total hight of room is about 150cm.

in order to get the most yield out of a plant, you should let them veg until they show preflowers and then switch to 12/12. BUT - once you switch to 12/12 the plants will at least double in size - but most likely they will triple or more in size. So if you only have a meter for canopy space and the plants are 1/3 meter high now.... you may want to consider switching to 12/12 much sooner (like next week).

So what i'm saying is - the longer you veg, the greater the yield BUT the larger the plant! so we indoor growers often have to sacrifice yield - but the consolation is we harvest faster (and more often).

did this help or hurt making your decision?

a little twinge in my arm. i was hoping to get a hps light up for flowering but i think you are right, it will change my plans a bit as money is an issue but if i have to, i will put the other red envirolite in and change the center blub for a 150w hps i have and the bulb is less that 2 months old, use these for the first month of flowering and by then i will be able to aford the 600w glolux lighting system (fingers crossed)

i am also thinking about changing my nutes for the flowering stage i have ionics at the moment but i like the look of advanved nutes sensi line and canna. which do you use?

i have always used general hydroponics which gave me great results with few worries. i am currently trying fox farm and am pleased with the results though i do not care for the pH swings. i was thinking on trying canna or an for my next grow but decided to go ahead and use up the shitload of GH and FF that i already have!

that was fun just finished giving out some advice to freddy.

the hydro shop near me has just got some ff stuff in but not the full range, canna has a good rep round here. but AN sensi just keeps calling to me i don't know why but i have read the web site and i think it might have some subliminal sales tactics going on .

i have time to think about this one i have enough grow nutes to take me to the second week of flowering at which point i will change to bloom

you know it isn't either/or and you are in a great position to try both and see if you can tell the difference in taste, potency, yield, etc....

i think you'll like hydro - the only thing off the top of my head is to make sure filling and draining is easy. some folks don't change the res at all and have great results. i call those people bastards! :)
The rest of us have to change the res weekly and it is (in my opinion) far and away the biggest pain in the ass about hydro. to be honest, i enjoy it - but if you don't want to be bothered it can be a drag.

i was going to change it every 2-3 weeks as i don't have a 30+ litre container. is there a sure fire way of telling when you need to change the res?

it is more hands on than a soil grow but the growth rate makes it more interesting.

i wanted to try hydro as i am new at growing and what to find the system that suits me.

Im swayed like that dodgy tower in Pisa but my roots are well stuck in the soil.

These are some very good threads regarding PPM/pH and reservoirs (I think one them is where i get an education on it)... i recommend you read these as they will tell you how to really feed the plants - which leads directly to how often to change the res...

thanks for the link's Email will read them later

DJ soil is easier than hydro that i have found, i like soil but the deeper i get in to hydro the more i am swayed towards it. i am having a few over nute problems but nothing to bad. but i think this is the way for me.

B. if you put in to hydro what you have put into the soil growing you would get amazing results. if it's not going to cost you and you have the extra time i say go for it.

Wonder if you can use apple jucie in DWC i don't think it would do any harm if you only ran it for 2 weeks and changed a couple of time.

think i will try it on one of the hempy's (thats if they are female)
