Sativa Veg time

Hi, how tall should my Sativa girl be before I flip?
Someone posted that they always start flowering when plant is 18”.
Due to its more vigorous growth, shall I flip sooner?
Planning to ScroG btw.

Any help appreciated.

Yes flip sooner becasuse you might run into height problems with your light not being able to get up high enough and you will be burning your plant . Read up on your strain online and see the description and recommendations. I am growing a Dinafem Blue Cheese and noticed a lot of stretch in flower which is very unusual. When I read up on her strain profile it said “Despite its genetic indica dominance, this variety reveals a pronounced stretching behaviour whilst flowering, being able to triplicate its height. That's why Dinafem recommends to not let Blue Cheese grow beyond 40 cm in the veggie stage.”
So I was very relieved it wasn’t something I was doing incorrectly.

If you are going to do a proper Scrog then you should have the net about a foot above the pot and be tying down grow tips while it vegs until the net is near full and keep tying right thru the stretch. Nice flat layer of so many colas big and small. :)

Here's an example for you. I've never grown sativa before, so I didn't top. I flipped at 16" and it stretched to 65". I'm in a closet with 8'. Ceilings. I'm having to bend the top over a little. Pure Power Plant is the strain. Day 42 from first pistils.
Wowzers; looks amazing, no lst?

Nope, although I did try super cropping the main stalk at one point to try to slow it down a little. I've never done that before, so not sure if I did it right or not, but it sure didn't hurt it. I just pinched the stalk and rolled it a few times. I've got a big knot where I did it now.

You can veg them kinda as long as you want if you train them and top them to keep them from getting super tall. I had some pure sativas years ago, that vegged for a few months. I constantly trained them into manifolds, and LST'd them for stability and topped them multiple times. I pruned growth so that light could get to the whole plant well. When I flowered them they were only about 14 inches off the top of the pots. They finished up between 30-40 inches tall, but the branches were just covered in big long colas. A few of them went 14ish weeks of actual flower time(16+ under 12/12). I had to use some pretty decent plant supports to keep them standing as they got heavy.
