Same Strain.. Different Seed Companies.. Big Price Diff ?

So more or less as the title says. For my grow I'm planning to buy a pack of Hindu Kush Seeds. Now I have narrowed my selection down to 3 choices. First is a Hindu Kush offered by a Seed company called Ontario's Best which is local and I can pick up a 5 pack of seeds for $50 bucks (CDN) or 10 for $100CDN not to mention I can go buy the seeds in person and be home within an hr. Now my second and third options are from a seed bank I happen to be looking at that has gotten some good reviews. Now again same strain (Hindu Kush) however 2 new seed companies one Nirvana, the other Sensi Seeds. The nirvana is $60 CDN for a 10 pack, and the Sensi is $120.... Now to the actual question.... Why ? What's the reasons for the large price variations ? Are the genetics that much more superior with the Sensi seeds ? And would I be best off to spend the most or since its my first grow only spending the $50 and getting the local seeds ???

Thanks in advance for all input and opinions !!

While doing seed shopping, I seen the same shit. In my personal opinion, the Strains are the same, quality seeds are the same. Price difference derives from operating cost & "Name Brand". Like the price of Blue Jeans. You can pay from $20 to $120 per pair. A lot of that cost is caused by the NAME brand. Like Dr. Cronic, or BDS, etc- High dollar. I only care about the characteristic of the strain- IE; THC level, yield, etc. I start with KC Brains. Your on the right track, IMO.

Thanks for the quick reply !

South Texas: Yeah, thats pretty much what I was wondering if it was all about the "name" of the company so perhaps it'll be in my best interest to grab the local seeds so that I have no worries about mailing or confusion just go to store hand cash get seeds and leave.

Anyone else have an opinion on the matter ? I'm still quite interested in hearing what others have to say as well.

Not to mention if anyone has grown Hindu Kush before and can provide me with some tips and/or a nice lil smoke report would be incredibly appreciated !!

You have to consider also...Are they just a middle man and tack a fee on top....Are they actually growing and crossing some and getting their own version of a strain... Are they really what you think they are... if the price is too good to be true..it usually is....

My Master Kush, & Afghan is really cool. Hindu Kush is from the same Region. Afghan from the lower elevation, Kush is from the Mountain area. A cross with your Hindu with Cali Orange is really cool, also.

Although I haven't purchased any seed stock yet, I plan on going to a couple of sources that I've heard experienced growers recommend. I'm in the US and am a little unsure about ordering from Canadian sources. What I am doing now is using bagseed to practice on, find out how to water, that type of thing, so that when I do invest in some good seed stock I won't kill the plants!

Thanks for the replies ppl !

So far Hindu Kush is sound like exactly what I'm looking for a nice indica. Anyone else with experience with this plant or those like it ?!? I'm going to buy a 5 seed pack and germ 3 to start. I hope to get at least 1 female to keep as a mother. If I'm lucky and get 3 females I'll keep the strongest as my mother plant and just flower the others accordingly. Worst case scenario is 3 males in which case I germ the 2 remaining seeds and bitch at the seed company for shitty results.

Those prices seem high. Dope-seeds sells the Sensi product for 19 GBP/10. 1 GBP=2 CAD. A little more from the Dr.

Maybe Nirvana or the local variety is better, maybe Sensi's product isn't as good as their original for some reason...but I wouldn't count on them being the same. Nirvana can name their seeds after whatever other company's seeds they want, and that's pretty much what they do. I wouldn't call buying Serious, Sensi, THSeeds, Flying Dutchmen, etc. brands paying for the name, I'd call knockoffs a genetic question-mark discount. Not everyone cares. It would be very cool if you bought them all, grew them side-by-side, and let us know the results.

Thanks for you reply Kurtz

Man, if I had the room and coin or even lights to buy all 3 and grow them side by side I would love to. That would sure answer my questions. I do believe I'm going to get the "local" variety. The Ontario's Best Hindu Kush and see how that one goes as I don't mind paying the tiny bit more for the fact I can walk into the store and buy them and then go right home to germ. Its getting close. I'll be heading to the seed bank probably this coming Saturday (8/2).

Anyone else ? Grow Hindu Kush or another similar kush Strain ??

not all the seed companys sell genetically equivallent strains.. nirvana seeds are copys of strains created by other breeders programs. i will say as a rule the better the seeds are the more they cost.. i will say that if you have time and space nirvana strains are worth the extra effort in growing out and picking good moms for pricethe but i must stress great strains come from the riggorous breeding programs of innovators not dupplicators .. that being said if i could walk into thestoreand take some pretty little seeds home in hours instead of waiting days for the mystery package.. i would be at that store.. good luck

also alot of seedcompanies like gypsy nirvana seed boutique are seed houses that buy older less viable seeds that have been pulled at most reputable retailers so their prices are really low.so is their germination rate alot of times.. that being said i have had great luck with gypsy nirvana

Thanks Scabiesbaby

I have made up my mind that I will be going to the store to walk-in and buy the seeds. It'll make me feel better that if there is a problem I have a physical person to go talk to and hold accountable. Not to mention I then have someone to ask some questions !!

Still waiting to hear from anyone whos grown Hindu Kush or atleast another similar plant possibly another kush or afghan strain an indica of course ?
