  • tried this thread out in the DIY area. only one reply. said places like banks will use these.. any more leas? thanks!

with all our handy skills around, anyone know where to buy poly-carbonate sheets? looking for 1 1/2 (1.5) inch thickness

i am preparing a vacuum chamber, to purge my stufffs.

I am trying to accumulate a used one from a shop, or perhaps just a good deal on one.

does anyone know where i might try looking?

this does still help. i could potentially piece together 3 - 1/2 inch pieces. the price just still seems a bit steep then. thanks!

seems way overkill. even the half inch lid that we got is pretty much enough... id say just a hair thicker at 3/4 and youd never have any problems. sure there is some deflection, thats fine... hell, mine is cracked to hell and it still works fine!!! a 3/4" I dont think would crack.

also... heres another thought after seeing this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Gallon-Vacuum-Chamber-and-CFM-Single-Stage-Pump-for-Degassing-Silicone-/321149418941?pt=BI_Pumps&hash=item4ac5ff3dbd

I could either 1, find a smaller chamber that my lid fits on and maybe pull a stronger vacuum once the muffin is done. or 2.

I can cut my chamber down so it only stands 6 or 8 inches tall and maybe pull a better vacuum. I can cut it perfectly level and buff it out to look like factory. I would be losing the handles though. but I like that smaller chamber.. mine doesnt need to be 3 gallon (except for giant muffinf I guess) otherwise a .5 gallon would be nice for the wax process.

I just lay the gasket in place and then set the lid on top the vac chamber, but I ordered a Viton gasket cut by Paramount Supply for the Mk IA and II tanks.

It will work fine if it is thick enough to not flex excessively, so as to develop high cyclic fatigue.

We are now using the 1" acrylic lid that I made for the original 12" DIY vacuum chamber, on the Mk I and II 10" lower collection tanks, to watch the vacuum finish insitu.

I also made some 1/2" Polycarbonate lids for the 6" Mk IIIA collection tanks, for the same purpose.
