Below, is an account of machinations from my brain. Everything is purely fictional....any images posted are grabbed from the internet and used to help tell the "story"...I hope you enjoy it...

NO EXPENSE SPARED ON THIS ONE!

Questions and comments are always welcomed....

Very excited about this one. My last one (non LST) yielded a total of just over 10 oz from 3 plants under a 600w hps…. 1 Bubblelicious 2.74 oz, 2 NYPD yielded the rest…. Flowered for exactly 70 days from 12/12 switch… vegged for 10 days under 6500k CFL’s, then added the HPS overhead in concert with the CFL for 20 more days…total veg time, 30 days) 3 day dark period prior to harvest.... HANDS DOWN THE BEST BUD I'VE EVER SMOKED! Let's see if we can top it :) :)

ROUND 3: LET’S TRY SOME HIGH WATTAGE LST!!!!

5/11/10 – Germ’d 3 Bubblelicious & 5 Blackjack (all feminized, all from Nirvana). Prepped grow space. Created foot print of 5x5. Added a new 20 amp circuit to service panel. My last two grows used the 15 amp circuit which was shared with my sump pump. Now I’ll have PLENTY of available amps to add power as needed. I’m going to get the seedlings going under 6500k cfl’s for about 5-7 days…then I’ll use a 600w MH conversion (7000k)…..I’ll plan on vegging until I get the LST’d stalk wrapped around the entire planter…. All planters will be 5 gallon…Obviously I will not be transplanting…Once it’s time to flower, I’ll swap out the MH for a super HPS and then I’ll also turn on the 1000w super hps…. For a total of 1600w super hps….

5/12/10 - Ordered Lumatek 1000w digital ballast, 1000w hortilux super hps, magnum XXXL 6” reflector, 600w 7000k MH conversion, 600w hortilux super hps, remote weather station. Went to the local garden shop (the one that stocks fox farm)…picked up a whole bunch of Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil and commercial perlite….I will do a 40/60 mix (perlite/soil)…

I didn't do a real journal on the last one.... Did more reading and less posting..... This time I want to journal everything.... Pull up a chair and enjoy... it's going to be a fun ride through the summer until harvest...

5-16-10 (Day 6) - Woke up and found that the final seedling showed its face.... all 8 are now sprouted and ready to grow.... Put seedlings into their final resting place (3 gallon planters, NOT 5 gallon, that was a typo)..... Added 6500k Cfl's (once per each seedling at about 2" away)... Also, I decided to turn the 600w MH on as well. (about 14" above)..... Because the grow room is very dry, I will be using a humidifier to control the humidity (also VERY helpful during flowering and post harvest hang drying)...

Here's a shitty pic from my cell phone to get you a quick look. Pics will be PLENTIFUL in this journal and in the absolute highest quality you will ever see... Take my word for it...

5-17-10 (Day 7) - Magnum xxxl reflector arrived.
Opened the box and was immediately blown away by its size. This thing is impressive... Never expected it to be this large (even though I had the measurements).... Was really excited to put the 600w MH (currently being used in a smaller reflector) in the magnum xxxl, however, I was shocked to learn that the 15' cord it comes pre wired with does not work with my ballasts plug. What's most frustrating is that their own website said NOTHING about it.....(not sure if the 10000w digital lumatek that's on its way will work with it or not... Ordered this cord that acts as a coupler so that my 600w future brite ballast will work with the magnum xxxl..

I'll deal with the Lumatek when it arrives, hopefully it does not need anything additional to connect to the magnum xxxl

5-18-10 (Day eight) - My multi location, indoor/outdoor weather station arrived
so now I can accurately monitor humidity and temp with lights on and off, through out all stages of the grow...remotely!

Pictures!!

more to come...time to go hit some power diesel:joint:

5-19-10 (Day 9) - Is it time to harvest yet!?:wall: .... The inevitable "watching paint dry" mood has hit me... Getting bored.. Good thing the Lumatek 1000w digital ballast is arriving tomorrow... Hopefully the coupler that ordered for the future brite ballast will arrive too...really want to get that magnum xxxl up there...

In anticipation of LST'ing... I pre cut a whole bunch of U hooks using wire clothing hangers....

pics are beautiful what camera are you using? can't wait for this one.
Thanks man! I have a bunch of camera bodies, not sure which one I used...probably one of my Canon Mark III 1ds' .... the camera really is not what's important...it's the lens... As long as it's a decent image sensor, the glass is what makes all the difference.... Guess what I do in my spare time....my other, spare time :)

5-20-10 (Day 10) - Lumatek 1000w digital ballast, 1000w Hortilux SUPER HPS and coupler arrived today. I think I'm going to stick with the 600w in its current configuration.... If the Veg gets too big, I'll quickly order a 1000w MH and veg under that... Otherwise, I'll wait until flowering to throw up the 1000w with the 600w (swapping out the MH for the Super HPS of course)....

More pics...

1 shot of Blackjack (looking nice), 1 shot of Bubblelicious (also looking nice)... My future brite 600w ballast has a new shiny, high tech, neighbor...and last shot, THE LIGHT!

Hey I was told not to use hortilux with digital ballast do to issue unless you have the newest horti bulb(was told it will dim prematurely plus other issues)please let me know I have always used my Hortilux with my old magnetic ballast.
Im running Ushio bulb with my lumatek with no issue so far

PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING ON THROUGH THIS JOURNAL:

Where have I been you ask? Well, I had a family emergency and was not able to give the seedlings the love and care they required, so they are no longer with us. HOWEVER, I restarted, and will be doing the exact same grow, except it will be 4 Bubblelicious, 4 Blackjack and 1 White strain (it's either White Rhino, White Castle or Snow White, not sure)....

This grow journal will pickup exactly where I left off at, 10 days in. As I'm currently 4 days into germinating my seedlings (which have all sprouted perfectly). So Tuesday 6/8/10 this Journal will resume and we will be back on track...and the fun will also resume!!

Thank you everyone for you interest and support...

6-8-10 (day 10)

WE'RE BACK IN BUSINESS!!!!

- Ok, a lot has happened, so if you're not up to speed, PLEASE READ post # 17 before continuing.

- Now that we've got that nonsense out of the way, let's get back to the reason why we're all here...Growing AAA++ PRIME bud.

- So far, all 9 ladies (feminized) look good. they sprouted in no more than 3 days. As soon as all 9 were above the soil, I immediately transplanted the germ pellets into 1.34qt nursery planters, rather than putting them directly into their 3 gallon planters. I then watered and skipped the CFLs and went directly to the 600w MH (7000k). I had never gone with so much power/light with 2-3 day old seedlings. The only thing I cared about was not the amount of light, but the heat, so I just made sure the soil surface temps did not go above 80 degrees... The results, well, see for yourself.... Compare these images 10 days in to the images in post #14, also 10 days in... I think I'm going from germ'd seedling to MH every time...No more cfl's for me...

- Got their first feeding of FF big bloom today...

- I'm not really sure when I'm going to transplant... If I'm going to LST, I need to get them into the full size planters soon... With that said, I feel like I'd be losing the great utilzation of light right now... 9 of them are taking up such a small footprint, so they're getting a ton of light. Obviously going with larger planters means larger footprint, which means reduced light efficiency.... I'd love to hear some thoughts on this. I guess I'm open to ditching LST...with that said I really want to try it, see the results etc... Having a 5x5 space with 1600 total watts is a lot... At what point does one say "fuck it, I'll just grow em normal this time".... When is enough light/space enough? Other than outdoors...

- Forgive the ramblings... Enjoying an NYPD/Bubblelicious treat as we speak...

- I think the ocean forest soil brought in some pests with it....

The only pests I ever had during any grow was the last one...and it got bad about 2 weeks before intended harvest. They did some root damage. They were fungus gnats. I did nothing to treat the problem....just ended up harvesting a few days earlier than intended.

anyway, the FF brought with it gnats and thrips.... neither of the two hold a heavy presence in the garden....but I know if I don't stay on top if it, things could change in a few days... So I've done sterilization of the area using hot water, soap and lysol industrial cleaner.... Then I let the area dry completely, put the plants back, turned on my fan earlier than anticipated (to combat both the thrips and gnats)....That seems to have helped... I'll know for sure in about 2 or 3 more days...

- In the wide shot (pic #3) you can see the MH on the baby girls and then the MagnumXXXL ready to go for flowering...

- I guess that's all I got for now...Just a little uncertain as to my direction with respect to LST vs standard grow.... Again, thoughts and comments are encouraged...
