Roots outgrowing pot

My girls have been in flowering for a week or two now.

But roots seem to be aiming for the nutrient solution in the reservoir underneath the growing pot  (see photo)
Is there anything i CAN do? Should I be worried at all? Aren't the roots gonna start rotting after a while?

Also there's a small manganese deficiency right now, maybe that's why the roots are growing so big - looking for nutrients?

Roots are a good thing. Change your solution once a week or so and use a little hydrogen peroxide and you shouldnt get root rot. What kind of fertilizer are you using?

yes you want your roots to grow as much as possible. if you dont already have a bubbler in your res, you should get one and your plants will love it. Its like the DWC

Buy another reservoir the same as they one you have or larger. Cut a hole in its lid only slightly larger ithan the bottom of your old too short reservoir, Cut the bottom out of the old resrvoir and insert the bottom inch or so othe the old reservoir into the hole of the top resrvoir. An aero system is based upon the roots all being suspended in air and sprayed withnutrient water. Aer systems truely should have chambers, resrvoir or tubes tall enough that no or almost no roots should ever lay in water. Aero attached nutrient reservoir where their roots can hand in nutrient water, but should have their roots in a seperate chamber or large (tall) tubes. The aero chamber or large aero tubes should drain completely to a seperate reservoir. There should be silk screen or root matting on the bottom of aero chambers and aero tubes.

hydrogen peroxide against root rot, got it! I'm using vitalink flowering nutes, but I desperately need an ec meter, something's going on, one of my plants isn't happy...

and thanks for the answers :bigjoint:

I have at least one air stone under every pot in my system. Even the 20L pots have roots growing a meter out of the bottom. If you can keep the water nice and oxygenated you will end up developing an underwater mass of roots which will greatly increase the uptake of nutrients to the plants. Hit them with Cannazyme™ or one of the many other root conditioning supplements.
Before I joined RIU I too thought that getting roots in water would harm the plant. I have now integrated DWC into my hydroponic system.

Here is some B grade root porn from my current grow.

your plants look good so it must be working ok for you. so what if your roots dont look like some expensive aero roots. if it fits your budget than its a success for you.

The plant has only been in DWC for two weeks. The first, sixth and eighth pics are all the same plant taken one week apart. The plant is only 40cm tall and the smallest plant in my system. I think its doing awesome for a runt vegetated in a coffee cup.
Not impressive roots. If you want a good root system then grow with medium pressure, high pressure or air atomized aero.

Nearly all DWC systems are settle for systems for growing mj. It is for those content in saying it works "well enough." Check out the MY True HP Aero Plug & Play Pods as there is some great root porn there.
I had no idea that this was going to turn into a pissing match.
